basic example of Warden authentication with Sinatra
Warden::Manager.serialize_into_session{|user| user.id }
Warden::Manager.serialize_from_session{|id| User.get(id) }
Warden::Manager.before_failure do |env,opts|
# Sinatra is very sensitive to the request method
# since authentication could fail on any type of method, we need
# to set it for the failure app so it is routed to the correct block
env['REQUEST_METHOD'] = "POST"
end

# Description: Simple demo to showcase Redis PubSub with EventMachine
#
# Update 7 Oct 2010:
# - This example does *not* appear to work with Chrome >=6.0. Apparently,
# the WebSocket protocol implementation in the cramp gem does not work
# well with Chrome's (newer) WebSocket implementation.
#
# Requirements:
# - rubygems: eventmachine, thin, cramp, sinatra, yajl-ruby

Download a cacert.pem for RailsInstaller

Why?

There is a long standing issue in Ruby where the net/http library by default does not check the validity of an SSL certificate during a TLS handshake. Rather than deal with the underlying problem (a missing certificate authority, a self-signed certificate, etc.) one tends to see bad hacks everywhere. This can lead to problems down the road.

From what I can see the OpenSSL library that Rails Installer delivers has no certificate authorities defined. So, let's go fetch some from the curl website. And since this is for ruby, why don't we download and install the file with a ruby script?

Mini tutorial for configuring client-side SSL certificates.

Client-side SSL

For excessively paranoid client authentication.

Updated Apr 5 2019:

because this is a gist from 2011 that people stumble into and maybe you should AES instead of 3DES in the year of our lord 2019.
