Solution of psql: FATAL: Peer authentication failed for user “postgres” (or any user)

psql: FATAL: Peer authentication failed for user “postgres” (or any user)

The connection failed because by default psql connects over UNIX sockets using peer authentication, that requires the current UNIX user to have the same user name as psql. So you will have to create the UNIX user postgres and then login as postgres or use sudo -u postgres psql database-name for accessing the database (and psql should not ask for a password).

If you cannot or do not want to create the UNIX user, like if you just want to connect to your database for ad hoc queries, forcing a socket connection using psql --host=localhost --dbname=database-name --username=postgres (as pointed out by @meyerson answer) will solve your immediate problem.

But if you intend to force password authentication over Unix sockets instead of the peer method, try changing the following pg_hba.conf* line:

How to setup a Factorio Headless Server

[LINUX] Factorio Headless Server Guide

So, with credit to the Factorio wiki and cbednarski's helpful gist, I managed to eventually setup a Factorio headless server. Although, I thought the process could be nailed down/simplified to be a bit more 'tutorialised' and also to document how I got it all working for my future records.

The specific distro/version I'm using for this guide being Ubuntu Server 16.04.1 LTS. Although, that shouldn't matter, as long as your distro supports systemd (just for this guide, not a Factorio headless requirement, although most distros use it as standard now). The version of Factorio I shall be using is 0.14.20, although should work for any version of Factorio 0.14.12 and higher.

Just a note to newcomers: If there are any issues with the installation steps, people in the comments are doing a good job

How to modularize your py.test fixtures

Using py.test is great and the support for test fixtures is pretty awesome. However, in order to share your fixtures across your entire module, py.test suggests you define all your fixtures within one single conftest.py file. This is impractical if you have a large quantity of fixtures -- for better organization and readibility, you would much rather define your fixtures across multiple, well-named files. But how do you do that? ...No one on the internet seemed to know.

Turns out, however, you can define fixtures in individual files like this:

tests/fixtures/add.py

import pytest

@pytest.fixture

Ghost Filter Query examples

Filter Queries - Example Use Cases

Here are a few example use cases, these use cases combine filter with other parameters to make useful API queries. The syntax for any of this may change between now, implementation, and release - they're meant as illustrative examples :)

Fetch 3 posts with tags which match 'photo' or 'video' and aren't the post with id 5.

api.posts.browse({filter: "tags:[photo, video] + id:-5", limit="3"});

GET /api/posts?filter=tags%3A%5Bphoto%2Cvideo%5D%2Bid%3A-5&limit=3
