Remove directory from remote repository after adding them to .gitignore

git rm -r --cached node_modules
git commit -m 'Remove the now ignored directory node_modules'
git push origin master

didnt work for me, i got: pathspec 'node_modules' did not match any files

note: my node modules is inside a subfolder. can anyone help?

Boom, worked like a charm for clearing my parcel cache. Removed it from the Remote Repo too!
