List of recommended packages for Cygwin

Necessary

openssh
ping
wget
curl
vim and/or emacs
tar
zip
unzip
mintty (a better terminal)
git or subversion or both

Optional

cygrunsrv - if you want to be able to SSH into your Windows machine
run2 - I forget why this was needed (something to do with running emacs on Windows)
jq - for parsing JSON
