#Determine SWORD Versification of a Bible, in 3 simple steps (with a maximum of 5 substeps)

(by looking at most at 3 of 5 different books (Tobit, 2 Corinthians, 3 John, Esther, Prayer of Azariah)

[Found by a hillclimbing optimization algorithm; therefore I cannot guarantee that the number of steps are really minimal. But I doubt it matters in practice.]

##Step 1: Look at book Tobit

  • not present: Go to step 2c. [after 1 substep]
  • has 14 chapters: Look at chapter 4.
    • Chapter 4 has 22 Verses: Use Luther [found after 2 substeps]
    • Chapter 4 has 23 Verses: Use Vulg [found after 2 substeps]
    • Chapter 4 has 21 Verses: Look at chapter 13.
      • Chapter 13 has 17 verses: Use NRSVA [found after 3 substeps]
      • Chapter 13 has 19 verses: Go to step 2b. [after 3 substeps]
      • Chapter 13 has 18 verses: Look at chapter 10.
        • Chapter 10 has 12 verses: Use KJVA [found after 4 substeps]
        • Chapter 10 has 13 verses: Use Synodal [found after 4 substeps]
        • Chapter 10 has 14 verses: Go to step 2a [after 4 substeps]

##Step 2a: Look at book Esther

  • has 10 chapters: Use Catholic [found after 5 substeps].
  • has 16 chapters: Use Catholic2 [found after 5 substeps].

##Step 2b: Look at Prayer of Azariah

  • not present: Use LXX [found after 4 substeps]
  • present: Use Orthodox [found after 4 substeps]

##Step 2c: Look at book 2 Corinthians

  • not present: Go to step 3b [after 2 substeps]
  • has 13 chapters: Look at chapter 13
    • Chapter 13 has 14 verses: Go to step 3a [after 3 substeps]
    • Chapter 13 has 13 verses: Look at chapter 11
      • Chapter 11 has 32 verses: Use SynodalProt [found after 4 substeps]
      • Chapter 11 has 33 verses: Use German [found after 4 substeps]

##Step 3a: Look at book 3 John

  • has 14 verses: Use KJV
  • has 15 verses: Use NRSV

##Step 3b: Look at the book order (no other differences!)

  • 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles are at the end of the OT: Use Leningrad [found after 4 substeps]
  • 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles are before Psalms: Use MT [found after 4 substeps]
