Regarding the git complete for all the other aliases, I didn't need those bits.
Rather than shell aliases, I use git aliases in the git config. Which allows me to get tab auto-completion.
e.g. I have git co
in .gitconfig
aliased as git checkout
, rather than say gco
. And pressing tab shows branch names.
And this setup even works now as g co
+ tab.

g COMMAND
.
