Reading Methods

  1. Open Reading: This is perhaps the oldest form of tarot reading and is less focused on specific questions and more on general aspects of life.

  2. Question Reading: In this type of reading, a specific question is posed before the cards are drawn. This method has been used since the 18th century, when tarot began to be used for divination.

  3. The Three Card Spread: This is a simple tarot reading where three cards are drawn to represent the past, present, and future. It is one of the oldest and most popular spreads, due to its simplicity and effectiveness.

  4. The Five-Card Spread: This is a more detailed form of tarot reading. The five cards represent the past, present, future, the reason for the question/problem, and the potential outcome.

  5. The Celtic Cross Spread: First recorded by Arthur Edward Waite in the 19th century, this spread involves ten cards and provides a detailed analysis of the past, present, and potential future, along with various other aspects of the individual's life.

  6. The Horse Shoe Spread: This seven-card spread is used to answer specific questions and provides insights into the past, present, and future, as well as hidden and outside influences.

  7. The Astrological Spread: This twelve-card spread corresponds to the twelve astrological houses and provides a detailed analysis of different aspects of life.

  8. The Tree of Life Spread: Based on the Kabbalah's Tree of Life, this ten-card spread provides a comprehensive view of a person's spiritual journey and destiny.

  9. The Dream Exploration Spread: This is a five-card spread designed to interpret and explore dreams. The cards represent the dream itself, the unconscious thoughts, the conscious thoughts, the spiritual aspect, and the resolution.

  10. The Relationship Spread: This spread focuses on the querent's relationships with others. It examines past influences, current situations, and future possibilities.

  11. The Mandala Spread: This spread is used to explore the spiritual inner self. Each card represents a different aspect of the self, and their positions form a mandala, a symbol of the universe.

  12. The Tetraktys Spread: Based on the Pythagorean philosophy of number mysticism, this ten-card spread represents the different aspects of reality emanating from the divine.
