I see that the conversation has taken an emotional direction, so I'll try to get it back on track, hoping that logic and love will win:
1️⃣ The original statement of the author is: "Software development isn't like building a house. The effort, uncertainty, and risks are the main particles of it!"
2️⃣ My response: "Contrasting software development vs. construction to emphasize the extreme difference in the effort, uncertainty, and risk is a delusion. It's plain wrong."
3️⃣ I still believe the statement is terribly wrong. Construction not only can match software development in the effort, uncertainty, and risk but far exceed it.
4️⃣ Because the statement is wrong, I assumed that the person making false statements either has no experience in that area or uses Strawman for a reason. There could be a third reason: a person has experience but still makes wrong statements.
If that general statement belongs to you and you agree with it, then I am sorry to hurt you, but you're very wrong about construction, despite your experience.
If that general statement *doesn't* belong to you, and *your* statement was more nuanced, then you should not feel hurt, because my assumption doesn't apply to you.
Before I leave this conversation, I want to stress that my goal was not to hurt someone's feelings, yours in particular (I don't even know how you appeared in that thread). Obviously, I was risking doing so, noticing and pointing out a mistake in the statement. No hard feelings.Thank you. |
