How do I fix the "Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000)" error? (Method by u/Giocher85)

1. Download the game ISO.
2. Install the game. You can either extract the contents of the ISO using a tool like 7-zip, mount the ISO through a drive emulator like WinCDEmu or Daemon Tools, or just straight up burn it on a real cd. I recommend the former option, as you probably already have a zip archiver installed on your pc. If you’ve extracted the ISO’s contents, run “setup.exe”. If you have mounted/burnt the ISO, just run it.
3. Once the installation is finished, paste iphlpapi.dll into the game’s main folder. You can download it from mega here. This is a generic securom cracker made by a user that went by the name virusek. You may need to set an antivirus exception.
4. Plug in the portal and just run the game as you had an original CD in your drive. Note: if you’re on win8 or 10, you may need to run the game in win7 or XP compatibility mode.

Hey, I'm using Windows 10 but I can't play the PC version no matter how much I try.
I add the dll, even trying a couple of different versions from this website https://www.dll-files.com/iphlpapi.dll.html
I opened it on Win7 and WinXp compatibility mode
I downloaded SecuROM remover
The PC versions seems like such a niche little piece of history, and also the easiest version to mod
If you could help me with this issue I'd be very grateful :^)

It looks like some versions were taken down, likely due to DMCA requests or similar issues.
Those uploads on Archive.org aren’t mine, so I don’t have any control over them.
It’s also possible that more game ROMs may be removed over time.
Please use the alternative download sources available or try a different region version.
The main difference between US and EU releases is usually just the additional language options.

Option 2 (Windows 10/11)
On Windows 11, it has been reported that the crack does not work. So you will need to install the paid or free version of the program Alcohol 120%. Please note that the free version has the option to install adware along Alcohol 120%. You can choose to not do so and if you accidentally did, you can disable the option in the settings of Alcohol 120% when installed. It is your responsibility to try this potential riskware.

Polish and Russian languages are not supported yet due to that version not being dumped with Alcohol 120%.

Obtain the .mdf and .mds files of SSA. A dump can be found on archive.org (https://archive.org/details/spyro-pc-dvd)

Mount both files using Alcohol 120%. Then extract the contents of the mounted SSA copy and find the setup.exe file. Make sure to set the compatibility of setup.exe to Windows Vista SP2. Afterwards, launch the setup.exe and install the game. Make sure you extracted the files (e.g. to a folder on your desktop) and that you are not launching the setup.exe file from a mounted SSA copy file.

Select the language in which you want to play the game in the setup. Then just install the game.

You can now play SSA as long as you have the disc mounted with Alcohol 120%.
