Part A – AMT Student Code of Conduct
The Australian Maths Trust (AMT) undertakes a range of varied mathematical and informatics activities for students in primary and secondary school including: competitions, enrichment activities, student and teacher workshops, training schools, and various government STEM enrichment initiatives (digIT and Curious Minds).
The physical, mental and emotional safety and wellbeing of students, staff and volunteers engaged with all AMT activities is of paramount importance to the AMT. All students are entitled to participate in AMT activities in a safe environment and expected to behave in such a manner that creates a safe, productive and friendly environment.
Students engaged in any AMT activity will:
1. remember they are representing themselves, their school and family communities and, if selected to an Olympiad team, Australia
2. behave appropriately, including showing respect to others, acting with integrity and honesty and conducting themselves in a manner that does not bring themselves, their families, their schools or AMT into disrepute
3. behave in a positive, friendly, respectful and co- operative manner at all times
4. respond to and act on all reasonable instructions from AMT staff and volunteers
5. refrain from any behaviour that could harm themselves or others, including any type of physical, mental or emotional abuse including bullying or harassing of other students, staff or volunteers
6. attend all required activities unless excused from these by the relevant staff
7. adhere to and complete all timetables, curfews, program requirements or other scheduling and attendance requirements at all times, and notify staff immediately if unable to do so
8. not leave a program venue without the knowledge, prior approval of the Program Director or their delegate and fulfilling departure and return procedures
9. not consume alcohol, tobacco or illicit drugs under any circumstances whilst participating in any AMT activity (including for students 18 years
or older) | |
10. use all AMT ICT systems and programs (including contest systems or training sites) and all social and electronic communication responsibly, including refraining from cyberbullying or downloading, creation or distribution, in any form, of inappropriate content
11. acknowledge the diversity of participants and staff in schools and treat all staff, students and volunteers with respect.
What happens if I breach this code of conduct?
Breach of this code of conduct may lead to a temporary or permanent suspension or exclusion from AMT activity, including immediate removal from competitions, residential schools or Olympiad teams. Students who are removed from a residential school or Olympiad team under these circumstances will be required to cover the cost of their exclusion and return travel. |
