Generate a GitHub Personal Access Token for Private Composer Packages

Generate a GitHub Personal Access Token for Private Composer Packages

If you're trying to load a private repository with Composer/Laravel, we'll need to generate a GitHub Personal Access Token (similar to OAuth token) to access the repository during a composer install without entering credentials.

If you have used other Github packages from {my-org} before, you may be able to skip this step.

  1. Visit https://github.com/settings/tokens.

  2. Click Generate new token.

Export TOTP tokens from Authy

Exporting your 2FA tokens from Authy to transfer them into another 2FA application

IMPORTANT - Update regarding deprecation of Authy desktop apps

Past August 2024, Authy stopped supported the desktop version of their apps:
See Authy is shutting down its desktop app | The 2FA app Authy will only be available on Android and iOS starting in August for details.

And indeed, after a while, Authy changed something in their backend which now prevents the old desktop app from logging in. If you are already logged in, then you are in luck, and you can follow the instructions below to export your tokens.

If you are not logged in anymore, but can find a backup of the necessary files, then restore those files, and re-install Authy 2.2.3 following the instructions below, and it should work as expected.

Instructions on how to reset the autonomous desk. This fixes a problem where the desk will not lower (also reportedly fixes incorrectly reported heights).
> Thank you for reaching out to Autonomous! I am sorry to hear that you are having some trouble with your SmartDesk
> but I will be glad to assist. It sounds like your system needs a "hard reset" can I please have you follow these
> steps thoroughly.
Reset Steps:
1. Unplug the desk for 20 seconds. Plug it back in. Wait a full 20 seconds.
2. Press the up and down buttons until the desk lowers all the way and beeps or 20 seconds pass.
3. Release both buttons.
4. Press the down buttons until the desk beeps one more time or 20 seconds pass.

Laravel Queue Supervisor

Install Supervisor with sudo apt-get install supervisor in Unix or brew install supervisor in Mac OSX. Ensure it's started with sudo service supervisor restart in Unix or brew services start supervisor in Mac OSX.

In Unix in /etc/supervisord/conf.d/ create a .conf file. In this example, laravel_queue.conf (contents below). Give it execute permissions: chmod +x laravel_queue.conf.

In Mac OSX first run supervisord -c /usr/local/etc/supervisord.ini and in /usr/local/etc/supervisor.d/ create a .conf file. In this example, laravel_queue.conf (contents below). Give it execute permissions: chmod +x laravel_queue.conf.

This file points at /usr/local/bin/run_queue.sh, so create that file there. Give this execute permissions, too: chmod +x run_queue.sh.

Now update Supervisor with: sudo supervisorctl reread in Unix and with: brew services restart supervisor in MAc OSX . And start using those changes with: sudo supervisorctl update.

Theming Slack for OSX

So, you love Slack, but you hate applications with large white backgrounds? Why not use Dark Mode!

Unfortunately, Slack does not have a Dark Mode, although it's on their list of possibilities.

But, don't fret - there is a solution! Because the slack native desktop apps are just wrappers around a web app, we can inject our own CSS to customize the application to our liking.

MailChimp Popup Script that works with WordPress sites

MailChimp's default popup scripts can break on WordPress sites that use jQuery/jQuery UI unless you include their embed code as the final elements before the closing body tag.

Including them in this way isn't always possible or easy with WordPress.

The code below is an alternative implementation of the loader that forces MailChimp's popup scripts to appear below all other scripts upon page load.

To use it, modify the baseUrl, uuid, and lid attributes with the ones from the original popup script that MailChimp supplies.
