- What happened in the interview/practice?
In my mock interview with Emily Freeman I had to a chance to have a mock interview in a comfortable setting(here at Turing). It was very helpful in a few different ways for me. I prepared by going over my story and also doing a lot of research on common technical interview guestions. I found that even though I invested a lot of time preparing for this portion of the interview, it was where I preformed the poorest. During the question and answer portion of the interview I felt very comfortablebut not so during the technical problem solving.
- What are some best practices of technical interviews that you've discussed?
Take a breath before you answer. Take your time and think through the questions carefully. Ask questions and remember your interviewing them as well. Talk out loud.
- What did you excel at in the practice?
I felt I exceled at the beginning of the interview during which time I created a rapport with the interviewer and communciated with her about my experience and time at Turing.
- What will you continue to practice as you prep for interviews in the future?
I will continue to practice for the technical portion of the interview but not in as structured a way. I think just getting more experience doing technical interviews and practicing in that enviroment will be more beneficial for me.
- What suprised you about the practice?
I was suprised by the tone of the interview. I previously worked in recruting and was suprised by the questions as well as the easy-going tone the interviewer set. I was also suprised by how nervous I was even doing a mock interview and especially coding in front of someone I don't have a relationship with.
