 Tithing is a biblical principal but not a new testament principle.

 Where does tithing come from?

 Old Testament Principles tied to the temple system

 First mention of tithing:

 The narrative of Genesis 14 is part of the larger story telling how Abram returns from defeating king Chedorlaomer and meets with Bera the king of Sodom,[16] at which point:

 Genesis 14

 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying,
 “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.
 20 
 And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

 Abram gave 1/10th to Melchizedek, who was a respected king of that region.  One time not a recurring theme for Abram

 Hebrew: ֹמַעֲשֵׂר, m'sr, which literally does mean tenth, might more loosely be used to mean portion, and Hebrew: מִכֹּל, m-kl, or from all, might refer just to food in the giver's possession, so that the whole verse might mean He gave him a portion of food..[19]

 Was a one-time "tribute offering" (trumat ha-mekhes, תרומת המכס), such as Moses gave to God in Numbers 31:41

 Leviticus 27:30-32

 And all the tithe of the LAND, whether of the SEED of the land or of the FRUIT of the TREE, is the Lord’s. It is holy to the Lord… And concerning the tithe of the HERD or the FLOCK, of whatever under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the Lord.

 This means the TENTH animal, if you have 19 sheep you only tithe the TENTH sheep.

 Exodus 30:12-16

 “When you take a census of the sons of Israel to number them, then each one of them shall give a ransom for himself to the LORD, when you number them, so that there will be no plague among them when you number them.13“This is what everyone who is numbered shall give: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as a contribution to the LORD. 14“Everyone who is numbered, from twenty years old and over, shall give the contribution to the LORD. 15“The rich shall not pay more and the poor shall not pay less than the half shekel, when you give the contribution to the LORD to make atonement for yourselves. 16“You shall take the atonement money from the sons of Israel and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may be a memorial for the sons of Israel before the LORD, to make atonement for yourselves.”

 Does not say about 1/10th. Specifically asks for money this is not a TITHE.

 Deuteronomy 14:24-26

 24“If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to bring the tithe,since the place where the LORD your God chooses to set His name is too far away from you when the LORD your God blesses you, 25then you shall exchange it for money, and bind the money in your hand and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses. 26“You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household. 27“Also you shall not neglect the Levite who is in your town, for he has no portion or inheritance among you.

 At the time the Levites were the only people who did not inherit land…


 Who is Melchizedek?

 Hebrews 5:6 - God makes Jesus a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.

 According to the writer of Hebrews (7:13-17) Jesus is considered a priest in the order of Melchizedek because, like Melchizedek, Jesus was not a descendant of Aaron, and thus would not qualify for the Jewish priesthood under the Law of Moses.

 Abraham father of the Jewish nation, Levi , Abrahams descendant , the Jewish priesthood made up of Levi’s descendants was inferior to Melchizedek’s priesthood
 A type of Christ priesthoood

 The priesthood of Melchizedek is a role in Abrahamic religions, modeled on Melchizedek, combining the dual position of king and priest.[1]

 Hebrews 7-11

 If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood--and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood--why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?

 Luke 11:42

 "Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.

 The only items mentioned in the New Testament was of a garden nature not specifically money.

 Numbers 18:26

 Moreover, you shall speak to the Levites and say to them, ‘When you take from the sons of Israel the tithe which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall present an offering from it to the LORD, a tithe of the tithe. 27‘Your offering shall be reckoned to you as the grain from the threshing floor or the full produce from the wine vat. 28‘So you shall also present an offering to the LORD from your tithes, which you receive from the sons of Israel; and from it you shall give the LORD’S offering to Aaron the priest. 29‘Out of all your gifts you shall present every offering due to the LORD, from all the best of them, the sacred part from them.’ 30“You shall say to them, ‘When you have offered from it the best of it, then the rest shall be reckoned to the Levites as the product of the threshing floor, and as the product of the wine vat. 

 The tithe was not given to the pastor, preacher or anyone in the temple system unless they were Levites!

 Malachi 3:8

       8“Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. 9“You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you! 10“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. 11“Then I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of the ground; nor will your vine in the field cast its grapes,” says the LORD of hosts. 12“All the nations will call you blessed, for you shall be a delightful land,” says the LORD of hosts.

 God placed a curse on Israel because they were not tithing. Tithing at the time was animals and food and grain, that were needed for the sacrifice, for God’s forgiveness, without God’s forgiveness there is God’s wraith. The priest needed the animal sacrifices day and night to have God’s forgiveness ( Old Covenant )

 What is the storehouse? It is not the local church, in the temple and people would tithe. You tithe a cow where would it go? Around the temple grounds there was sheds , storehouses and keep everything that was tithe.. THERE WAS NO LOCAL CHURCH.

 The new covenant is the blood of Christ. 

 Biblical Tithing is meant for the temple system the tithes were never given to the teachers… It was given to the poor, widowed

 1 Corinthians 9:6-15

 Or do only Barnabas and I not have a right to refrain from working? 7Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat the fruit of it? Or who tends a flock and does not use the milk of the flock?
       8I am not speaking these things according to human judgment, am I? Or does not the Law also say these things? 9For it is written in the Law of Moses, “YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE HE IS THRESHING.” God is not concerned about oxen, is He? 10Or is He speaking altogether for our sake? Yes, for our sake it was written, because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher to thresh in hope of sharing the crops. 11If we sowed spiritual things in you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? 12If others share the right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ. 13Do you not know that those who perform sacred services eat the food of the temple, and those who attend regularly to the altar have their share from the altar? 14So also the Lord directed those who proclaim the gospel to get their living from the gospel.
       15But I have used none of these things. And I am not writing these things so that it will be done so in my case; for it would be better for me to die than have any man make my boast an empty one. 16For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion; for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel. 17For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me. 18What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.

 You are not OBLIGATED to give… there is nothing speaking about the 1/10th or a tithe. You give because of love… You are free to give any amount you desire.

 Free-Will offering

 Luke 6:38 "GIVE(money, time, gifts, clothing, alms, blood, by volunteering yourself, labor, by visiting the sick and the incarcerated), and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."

 Matthew 25:34-40 "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
 For I was hungry, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done(or give) it unto ONE OF THE LEAST OF THESE my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
