new phone? (April 2018)

Requirements:

• not too expensive (it's a phone ...)
• modern phone (no need to buy a new one in <= 2 years)
• most used features: communication (mail, chat/im), organizing (calendar, todos), navigation (map/gps), podcast, camera (mostly pictures), sometimes reading, ...
• less used features: gaming, voip, video calls, coding/editing files, ssh, etc
• no spyware etc
• legit manufacturer
• lineage os support or stock android
• security updates
• ?

Nokia

• Ein Nokia vielleicht? Die versprechen ja Updates.
• Eventuell die neuen Nokia? Wäre afaik stock Android
• Nokia sind aktuell eh interessant, die vom heutigen Jahr wegen Android one.
• Nokia bringt Grad ne Ladung Android one Geräte raus (6 und 7+)

Pixel

• Oder ein Pixel
• Bei Android Hardware mit guter Software und Security Support ist eigentlich nur noch Pixel und Android one übrig

Motorola

• Ich bin mit meinen Motorolas auch zufrieden, sind halt nicht Highend.
• Motorola is having their new event in a few days. Their G series is usually proper nice in cost/value + they provide updates for quite a long time, which is a feature you might be interested in.
• Yeah, but still no Android 8 Update for my G5Plus
• at least security patches arrive quite faster than for other vendors

Xiaomi

• Ich bekomm am dienstag ein xiaomi mi a1 - hat google one
• Ist das nicht mi? Von denen habe ich zumindest bei den Fitnessbands nur schlechtes gehört
• Android one Geräte, z.b das Xiaomi Mi a1

OnePlus

• the OnePlus3 is super so far (after ~ 1 and a half years) :)
• 'm super happy with my Oneplus 3
• tbh, when i broke my op1 screen, i just bought another one
• at this time I guess I would buy a used oneplus 3/3t/5. they are rather cheap on willhaben
• oneplus isn't as cheap as they used to be anymore. I still think they still produce great devices for the money.

Huawei

• The new huawei phones a pretty good and have a nice cost to value ratio
• In the future I'll probably stay away from Huawei. They don't even deliver security patches for my Phone since 2 years (Honor 6) and their bootloader unlock service doesn't work.

• Also, I'd avoid devices using mediatek chipsets and aim for something containing a snapdragon 845 (or at least 835)
  • From all I know, the snapdragon just has the best performance for one and I also remember that there were mediatek specific vulnerabilities in the past

  • also they are in the middle of the "deceiving security updates" problem: https://www.androidauthority.com/study-android-hide-security-updates-854812/ which may not be there fault though but rather by the vendors that just produce lower end and cheap phones
