Signing VirtualBox Kernel Modules

These are the steps I followed enable VirtualBox on my laptop without disabling UEFI Secure Boot. They're nearly identical to the process described on [Øyvind Stegard's blog][blog], save for a few key details. The images here are borrowed from the [Systemtap UEFI Secure Boot Wiki][systemtap].

Install the VirtualBox package (this might be different for your platform).

Install to Debian Buster
All of services needed to run Mastodon instance (tor, postgresql, redis, nginx) will be installed to the same server.

Install packages

Instructions

If you follow this guide you will end up with an offline and online Yubikey. Use your online Yubikey for everyday life, signing/encryption etc. Offline key for signing keys for web-of-trust and replace lost online keys.

I. General Mistakes

Writing your own home-grown cryptography primitives (For example: Mifare Classic)
- Exception: For the sake of learning, but don't deploy it in production.
Using a fast hash function (e.g. MD5, SHA256) for storing passwords. Use bcrypt instead.
Not using a cryptographically secure random number generator
