Computing In Technicolor

####Turing's Eyewear Problem

Background

  • Former optometrist, pony trainer, magician, and pedal cabber

Eyestrain:

  • 73% of adults under 30
  • 65% of Americans report symptoms
  • 9/10 report using devices for more than 2 hours per day, don't you feel bad for them.

High Energy Blue Light

  • violet/blue band from 400 to 500 nm
  • cause of age-related macular degeneration
  • fancy term for vision loss, slow recovery from exposure to bright light, color sensitivity

The problem

  • computers emit a small spectrum of high intensity light

The glasses

  • create warm, full-spectrum colors
  • increase contrast on the screen
  • slight magnification
  • prevents dry eyes
  • overhead pipe drip protection

Suggestion 1: 20-20-20 rule

  • Every 20 mins, look at something at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds

Suggestion 2: Blink

Suggestion 3: Adjust Ambient lighting

  • Screen should be same brightness as surroundings
  • Avoid overhead direct lighting

Suggestion 4: Download f.lux

  • changes the color spectrum, more red as night goes on
  • fun fact: red lights for camping/SEALs to keep pupils dilated so night vision remains

Suggestion 5: Buy glasses

Suggestion 6: Orange Mocha Frappachinos
