I am calling to indicate my support for the zoning change at 1700 N Western Avenue. As you know, it's currently a used car dealer and the owner wants to build a 60 unit apartment building. This is a superior use of the land and due to the CTA's past, present, and forthcoming service and infrastructure changes to increase reliability and capacity on the Blue Line, the additional neighbors will have an unmeasurable effect on the crowding on the Blue Line.
The CTA added morning and afternoon capacity two weeks ago and is working on a project to add even more capacity within the next two years. The main result on denying new housing from being built in our ward would mean sustained high rents in the vicinity or, worse, increasing rents because while the housing production may have stopped, the demand hasn't.
