The Crazy Eight

The Crazy Eight

A team of adventurers for GURPS Space

The Crazy Eight is the nickname of a Special Operations team working for the Union's Bureau for Special Cooperation. Like all Special Operations teams, the Crazy Eight takes on the hard missions that the Union needs to get done, no matter the challenge.

Captain Jenna Soong

Captain Soong is commander of the Union Ship Asylum, and the leader of the Crazy Eight. A former officer of the Terran Defense Force, Captain Soong was recruited by the Bureau for Special Cooperation after her involvment in the exposure of a Radu plot to destroy the Union parliament.

Joseph Nwasi

Joseph was born on Deep Angel Station. At sixteen, he decided to leave his home clan and joined the Union Bureau of Exploration. Assigned to deep scouting missions, he spent over two centuries exploring worlds in the Periphery. Upon returning to core space, he joined the crew of the U.S. Asylum after saving Captain Soong and Xi-tsai-wa from an assassination attempt by Xi-xi rogues.

00110

00110 is a representative of the Machine Collective, assigned to observe the Union. As an AI with diplomatic access, 00110 has rotated through many of the Union Bureaus. Despite the mutual unease and mistrust between the Collective and the Union, 00110 has proven to be an effective agent and a trustworthy ally.

Alice Aterton

Alice spent her childhood on Luna. She defied her father — chairman of the Old Earth Lunar Mining Corporation — when she joined the Terran Defence Force. Her natural aptitudes and extensive engineering training made her an ideal ship's engineer. She served under Captain Soong in her last tour, and was a natural choice to join the crew of the Asylum. Alice keeps the ship in tip-top shape.

Xi-tsai-wa

Xi-tsai-wa is a longtime agent of the the Bureau for Special Cooperation, the first Xi-xi to join the service. He spent years undercover, working to infiltrate and ultimately bring down the notorious Xi-tcha-ruk gang. Following this grueling mission, he requested a position on a Special Operations team for a little rest and relaxation.

Bot

Bot is the remote drone of the Asylum. Bot's really an extension of the ship AI, but can operate independently when it needs to. Like Asylum, Bot can be a little quirky, at times.

Void Runner

After the Sisters of the Night reached a truce with the Union, Void Runner was amongst the many Aimless that crossed into Union space to seek their fortunes. She served with a mercenary cohort during the Union clashes in the Far Sectors, then made her way to Geno-xi, where she served as muscle for one of the minor branches of the Xi-tcha-ruk. After an ecounter with Xi-tsai-wa, Void Runner pledged her Bond to the master spy and now acts as his personal bodyguard, despite his protests that he doesn't need protection.

Tobias Mann

Tobias was born on the colony world of Paradise. When his home was invaded by the Jupohe during the Far Sectors War, he joined the resistance. He was nearly killed during an operation, and spent several years as an invalid. When the Union took back Paradise, Tobias received extensive cyborg implants and upgrades. The Bureau for Special Cooperation recruited him to join Special Operations shortly after his recovery.

Alien Races

There are dozens of sapient species in and around Union space. Most of these are found on worlds near Network gates, though a few (most notably the Machine Collective and the Radu) appear to have access to other forms of interstellar transport.

Some of the more prominent sapient species:

  • Machine Collective AI
  • Humans
  • Radu
  • Sisters of the Night
  • Xi-xi
