Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
SuperDuper - super handy, will save a lot of time if you mess up on a step.
Note - you need 10.6.8 for the OS to run a ATI 6870 card, so for the install I used a Nvidia 8800 GT card I had. You can use a older PCI FX card to do the trick.
Steps to Build Hackintosh 10.7.2 system, this method requires you to installer 10.6 before 10.7: Taken from http://tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=169&t=29158
10.6.8
1. Make sure you only have one 4GB ram stick installed. If you have more than 4GB the 10.6.8 combo installer will kernel panic.
2. Boot your system and hold down "delete" key. This will take you into the Asus bios setup. By default the Bios is setup as needed for a hackintosh install (All sata controllers are set to AHCI). Change boot priority to DVD then hard drive.
3. Boot the iBoot Legacy cd-rom. Once you see a screen that shows iBoot icon, eject the CD and pop in the Snow Leopard Retail DVD. Then hit F5 and the iBoot icon should change to Snow Leopard installer, hit enter and it will start the installer.
4. Once you get to the install screen, in the menu go up and select Disk Utility. Here you want to make 3 partitions. Make the first one your primary boot drive. Make a 2nd partition of around 100 GB for a fall back install and lastly make a 8GB partition and name it "Installer". Once done quit and install Snow Leopard on the main boot drive.
5. It has to restart don't worry!! remove snow leopard cd. Put back in the iBoot Legacy CD-Rom and boot into it again. In the menu you will now see the main boot drive and arrow over to it and hit return. This will boot mac os x you just installed.
6. Set up your info in os x. Next plug in your flash drive - red or black USB ports. Move all the software from above to the desktop.
7. Run combo update 10.6.7 - very important "don't restart"!
8. Install Bridgehelper and "don't restart"!
9. Launch "MultiBeast 3.9.0: Snow Leopard Edition" check off Easybeast and system utilities rebuild cashes and repair permissions - Eject Iboot Legacy CD-ROM, remove the Flash drive and restart.
10. This should boot you into your 10.6.7 install. Here I ran SuperDuper and make an exact copy of the drive running 10.6.7 to the 2nd partition for a fall back install. - This saved me a ton of time!
11. Next run UpdateHelper. You MUST run this before the 10.6.8 update or it will kernel panic!
12. Install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 and restart - make sure the Flash drive is not plugged in!
13. Launch "MultiBeast 3.9.0: Snow Leopard Edition" check off - audio: realtek alc8xx check applehdarollback and system utilities rebuild cashes and repair permissions restart.
14. Launch "MultiBeast 3.9.0: Snow Leopard Edition" check off - network - hanks applee1000 and system utilities rebuild cashes and repair permissions restart.
15. You need to physically go into system preferences and manually set up the network - super easy!! don't wait for new network notification. when you connect check for software updates install them and then shutdown. I was using DHCP so I had to do nothing ...
16. Remove the temp video card 8800 GT and replace with the sapphire 6870.
17. Boot up check all your card if it displays correctly it should.
18. Launch "MultiBeast 3.9.0: Snow Leopard Edition" check off - boot options - instant menu system utilities rebuild cashes and repair permissions restart.
19. Here I ran SuperDuper again to make an exact copy of the drive running 10.6.8 to the 2nd partition for a fall back install. - I found you may have to use Disk Utility to wipe the fall back drive before you run SuperDuper again on it.
Note - if at anytime when you reboot, you get a "boot fail" screen, reboot using the rBoot CD-ROM, this will give you the menu again and you can choose your main drive. To fix the boot, run Launch "MultiBeast 3.9.0: Snow Leopard Edition" check off Easybeast and system utilities rebuild cashes and repair permissions. restart.
10.7.2 - http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/07/xmove-multibeast-install-os-x-107-lion.html
1. Boot into your existing Snow Leopard installation.
2. Download the OS X Lion App directly from the Mac App Store - it will automatically open. - FYI this is the full 10.7.2 installer when you download it again from App store.
3. Target your currently booted Snow Leopard drive and hit Install. This will not install the OS or affect this drive in any way. It will simply install the files necessary to do so later in the process.
4. Click Restart to reboot.
5. Double-Click xMove, and choose Installer as Destination. --- WARNING: DO NOT choose existing Snow Leopard as the Destination. -- Here is what I got stuck on for a bit. the Installer is badly coded and it skipped the install destination part till the end for you hit install. Make sure you click the "change destination drive..." to be the "Installer" partition!!!!!!!
6. Do not interrupt the process- it will only take a few minutes. When done, you'll have a secondary partition on your drive containing the OS X Lion Installer!
7. Boot Installer & Install OS X Lion - Reboot- at the Chimera boot screen, choose Installer. It will boot directly to a familiar Mac OS X Installer complete with Disk Utility. Install OS X Lion over existing Snow Leopard. restart.
If you've installed directly over an existing Snow Leopard installation, you're done! You should already have done proper post-installation steps on your existing Snow Leopard drive.
Audio fix - run MultiBeast 4.0.2: Lion Edition - check off audio: realtek alc8xx - the entire package keep the 2nd audio option unchecked and reboot.
Pop back in the other 3 4GB ram chips for your all mighty 16GB of ram!!!
Here I ran SuperDuper again to make an exact copy of the drive running 10.7.2 to the 2nd partition for a fall back install. - I found you may have to use Disk Utility to wipe the fall back drive before you run SuperDuper again on it.
Enjoy 10.7.2 on your sub $1000 system!
