My darling mother,
It must be about six months now since you last heard from me, but now that I am home again in dear Old England you will hear more often. I am in this hospital for recouperation, as I was so run down with disentry through bad usage while in German hands, and not only that, we have been on a long march over a thousand kilometres, starting on January 23rd and being recaptured on the 12 April by the 9th American Army at Brunswick, but I had already been admitted into hospital on the 11th.
I must say we were very well treated by the yanks, and under their care I started picking up quickly, however, we were transporteed over by plane yesterday arriving on an aerodrome just outside Swindon, we spent the night in a yank hospital and transferred here today, there is nothing to worry about as I am picking up well, I shall most probably be here a couple of weeks.
I should very much like to see you, we are allowed visitors any time, but it is so far, the fare is 7? from London, but perhaps it would be best to wait until I get my leave. I am longing to know if Violet has returned from Cheshire, as it be easy for her to come.
Cherio.
Love to you all,
Frank,
