Thanks, it worked for me (not using the --enable-static either).
I had a message on ./configure at first : Error: "curses not found"
It was fixed with : aptitude install ncurses-dev (debian wheezy)

There is no need to compile with --enable-static, you just need to run ldconfig as root after installing libevent to make sure the loader finds the newly installed library when calling tmux
