Tom's notes on travel survey

(1) Survey Recruitment

Not sure what this is! :)

(2) rMove

rmove crashed when i first opened it. had to reopen.

I turned this app on for about a day and then went on a ski trip that weekend, which made it pretty hard to use. It was entirely using up my battery when I needed it in really critical situations (long driving tip to Tahoe) and then once I got on the mountain, I had to uninstall the app in order to save my battery. Perhaps thats user error, but I wish there had been more of an "on" "off" button for the app, put right up front in a clearer place. This was sort of disappointing because I knew that my trips up and down on the ski lift were not interesting for the sake of planning transportation, but that my trip to get to Tahoe was interesting for transportation planning (I took several modes, shared cars, etc). But by the time I was ready to come back home I had already uninstalled the app and that was a bit of a barrier to get back into it, at least perceptually.

(3) the online trip diary

Below is a stream of consciousness review of the flow through the web app diary. It should probably be reviewed while actually doing the flow through the app. Think of it like "comments" or feedback written onto the flow of the web app. In the future, this might be a good way for you and/or RSG to think about user feedback. Web users, like readers, will have specific reactions to moments in the web document that aren't easy to review only in summary at the end.

In general: drop downs are not preferable (more clicking).

Trip description:
I Got a bike flat on my 1st route--so I stopped at closed bike shop. In the section where the app checks on whether I included all of my stops, I said that the stopping at the closed bike shop did not. So the app looped me back into putting in destinations but didn't tell me why. I understood eventually but shuold have been told why I was being looped back into entering the stop at the closed bike shop.

walked or jogged should maybe just be walked and jogged separated?

how did you pay the rail fare should just be autocompleted based on previous choices

walk (or jog/wheelchair) option is not consistent with "walk or jog" in previous drop down.

also, remove "any" from beginning of options:

"any taxi"
"any bus" etc

"went home" as a reason why you stopped at home is too easy and broad

you should be able to just specify that a jog was "round trip" from the bat-not 2 trips.

social and dine out seem like they should be the same category?

"what total did the driver receive" - commission not known to user for Lyft/Uber

can i save my session after completing my survey and going on to complete my partners? unclear
