Review your habit tracker: how did you monitor your habit(s)? What does this tell you about your overall progress becoming the person you want to be? In general, how satisfied are you with how you spent your time this module? What could be improved next module?
- I set sticky notes on what I need to do for the mod and throughout the mod when I finish something I remove the sticky note. I have reach many of my goals in my overall progress of becoming the person I want to be. I am satisfied how I spent my time this module and will be taking it into the next module as well.
Mind Maps:
-
i. Engagement. What did you reflect on last week in regards to when you’re engaged in your work at Turing? Pull out an idea that resonates with you most (e.g., “Talking through a problem with a partner,” “The moment when I solve a problem that I previously didn’t know how to do,” “Setting up a successful project management process for my team”) and break that idea down into parts and make a list (what are all the steps that go into that moment? When do you get to use your strengths? What is fun about this?).
- Solving a problem I was stuck on
- Working with a partner thriough a problem
- Listening to how others might solve it
- Showing others what I have accomplished
-
ii. Energy. What did you reflect on last week in regards to when you feel most energized in your work at Turing? Pull out an idea that resonates with you most and break that idea down into parts and make a list (what are all the steps that go into that moment? When do you get to use your strengths? What is fun about this?).
- A concept finally clikcing
- Being able to share my strengths
- Working with others
- Being able to share my opinion and thoughts without judgement
-
iii. Flow. When have you had an experience recently in which you were in a state of flow? You can also think about this as “joy” or “play.” Pull out an idea that resonates with you most and break that idea down into parts and make a list (what are all the steps that go into that moment? When do you get to use your strengths? What is fun about this?).
- Understanding the concept
- Using the concept
- Solving Issues because I do feel like I know what I am doing
Prototype your mind maps: what do these mind maps tell you about what’s important to you as a software developer? What questions do they bring up about what you still want to learn about this career? _ It tells me that what's important to me as a software developer is, since there are so many different route in this field, what am I really looking to go into? As well as because I am a junior developer what are my options should I take any job I can get and gain the experience first then will I be able to find something that fits with my ideals and values? What I want to learn more about this career is how many different route are there when diving deep into this career.
Prototype your outreach: (Be prepared to share this in your small group discussion)
-
Who comes to mind as a person you can reach out to? Why that person? What questions would you ask them? Come up with 2-3 people here to serve as prototypes
- Who comes to mind is my mentor, because he is an alumni from Turing and have been in his career for a while. Questions:
- What is it like going through an interview as a developer?
- How is your day to day look like? Either remote/office?
- How has it been working with others as a team and within the team?
-
How would this outreach help you further your job search strategy?
- This outreach can help me feel more comfortable reaching out to more people so that I can grow my network and get more comfortable talking to people I don't know.
Outreach & Networking Plan: Based on your reflections above, create a concrete plan for your outreach:
-
Who is the right person for you to reach out to?
- Jhun Kuya (mentor)
-
How will you find them? How do you know they’re the right person?
- I found them through a connection from a classmate and I know they are the right person because during what's a dev day he was talking about his work and it really aligned with my ideals and values.
-
How will you reach out?
- I have already reach out through slack to set up a time.
-
What questions do you need to ask them?
- The about me for the company
- What kind of work does a developer do for the company
- How is the work culture and enviroment
- What does a tech interview look like?
-
How will you use this information to further your solution?
- I will use this information to find out what I really am looking for and solidify hopefully a bit more of the route that I want to go towards.
-
How will you follow up?
- I will keep reaching out with any more questions I have and hopefully be able to keep this network question throughout my career.
Execute your plan:
- Reach out to your contact THIS WEEK. If possible, reach out to more than one person OR find a meetup to attend also. What happened? What other next steps should you take? If this is a person connected to a company you’re interested in, be sure to add it to your Huntr card.
