  1. Habits Reflection:
  • How have you seen yourself become more aware of your habits? Have you tried implementing anything new? What have the results been?
    • I haven't been keeping up with my habits as I dive into a project or mythical creatures I get lost and realized it is now very late. I haven't tried to implement anything new but I think I need to implement a new strategy, maybe having someone come on walks with me because then I would feel more of a responsibility of not wanting to let the other person down. Result of not taking time to go outside has me feeling a bit cooped up.
  1. Start Where You Are (Empathize with the user – you)
  • Health: how you answer “how are you”; intersection of physical, mental, and emotional health

    • Physically I am not where I want to be. I want to excercise more and have a healthier habit, but old habits die hard and I am working to break the habit with small steps.
    • Mentally and emotionally: To be honest I am not sure... some days I am doing alright and other days I'm crying over something small. Maybe it is the stress of Turing and life but my days are like a rollercoaster.
  • How would you rate your overall health on a scale of 1-5? How do you currently make time for activities associated with your health? What is a small change you could make here to readjust your health ratings?

  • I would say a 2.5. I need to carve out time for my health but I feel at the same time that I am not understanding concepts as fast as others and spend a lot of time going over concepts and googling things. A small change that I could do is be less hard on myself and realized that making time for activities could possible help me learn more and understand more because I am coming back more refreshed.

  • Work: what you do

    • Make a short list of all the ways you work right now; How much value do each of those things bring to your life? How are those activities purposeful for you?
      • I like to work for longer period of time before a break.
      • I like to make sure the work is to the best of my ability.
      • I like to work together at the beginning to understand what needs to be done first then divide and conquer.
      • I like to work with either some type of noise or music.
      • I like to work off other people's energy.
    • I think that each of these bring a lot of value to my life beacause they defined how I work and what style I like to work in. These activites are purposeful to me because it is my workflow and knowing what my workflow is will be helpful to not only me but other people that I will work with.
  • Play: what brings you joy? Think about joy just for the pure sake of doing it; everyone benefits from this kind of play

    • What activities do you do that bring you joy throughout an average week? In what ways could you make a small change to bring more joy into your life?
      • What brings me joy is having time to myself and doing what I want to do in that moment.
      • Activites: Playing a game (level) of Archero on my phone, Spending some time with my SO, Just turning off my brain and watching a movie or TV show.
      • I think I could add some hobbies that I have left behind from life and bringing it back into my life would be something that will bring me more joy in my life.
  • Love: sense of connection; who are the people who matter in your life and how is love flowing to and from you and them?

    • How does love currently show up in your life? How do you show love to others right now? What adjustments would you like to make in this area?
      • Most important people in my life are my SO and my family. With my SO we are trying to communicate more with one another and asking each other more questions or doing more small talk and me being honest with myself and them about my feelings. With family it is always the same because we always know that even though we don't talk often we are always there for one another.
      • I show love to others right now by being with them both physically, mentally and emotionally.
      • I want to learn to love myself more because I am also hard on myself no matter what I do and changing it would put my in a better state physically, emotionally and mentally.
    • Looking back at the 4 areas, do any problems emerge that you want to begin designing solutions for?
      • I want to design a solution to learn to love myself and my flaws, that way I can begin to grow and show my emotions to others.
  1. Define your needs, problem, and insights:
  • Based on what you wrote about above and your group conversation, what problems have you identified that you’d like to design solutions for? What do you already about what you want for your career? What do you still need to find out? Who or what do you want to grow into by the end of the Turing program?
    • My biggest problem that I identified with was love for myself because if I don't see the value in myself and love myself how will I know what I actually want for myself in life and career wise. I do know that I want stability, money, and flexibility in my career. I still need to find out what specific area I want to go into with this career or am I flexible and will like any jobs I enter into. Who I want to grow into by the end of Turing is someone who is able to love herself and her flaws, someone who has the knowledge and understanding of being a FE developer and can take it with her to any job. Someone who is confident in her work and can explain her work to other people withour feeling like it will be judge harshly on.
  1. Ideate – challenge assumptions
  • When you discussed software developers with your small group on Monday, what assumptions came up about what software developers actually do? What steps could you take to challenge those assumptions and find more facts to answer the question of what developers do? In addition to what a typical software developer life could look like, what do you want yours to include?
    • Assumptions: They make things run and fix them when it is broken. They like to work alone. Steps to take to find more facts about being a software developer is by asking someone you know who is one or by looking up different type of companies and looking that their about me or their values and ideals can help challenge these assumptions.
    • A software developer life could mean that they WFH or at the office and can set their own schedules for the most part. They have flexibilty with their job. What I want to to include would be having a good work enviroment because I do tend to feed off of others peoples energy.
  1. Prototype – start creating solutions
  • What is the basic threshold that your new career must meet after Turing? What would you hope WILL NOT happen in your future after Turing? What is your absolute, no-holds-barred, ideal dream for your future after Turing?
    • Basic threshold that my new career must meet after Turing would be having stability with that job. What I hope would not happen is that it takes me a while to find a job, or I keep failing the interviews/code challenges. My Ideal dream for my future is finding a job that has everything I want and having the stability but also the ability to grow within that job to a higher level.
  1. Test –- solutions
  • Based on this week of reflections, write out your initial vision statement for your career:
    • In my career I want to have stability, have flexibility with scheduling, have all my health insurance covered and make sure that the company matches my values as well has a postivie work enviroment.
