Because he might be wrong if he laughs. And if he's wrong, you might not like him anymore. And if you don't like him anymore, he might not have access to all the good things you do. If he doesn't have access to those things, and he might need them in the future, he'll die. That's how his brain is working. He can't tell you all of that, but if you understand why he does that and help explain it to him, he can stop having that problem.
If you don't talk to him, he's going to keep doing that thing for which you make fun of him. As such, you're just as selfish as him if you don't try to help.
