" Although it can seem like a dumpster fire at times,
this dumpster fire has kept me warm. " - Carmen Kolohe
1. How are you? | |
Sydney: I hate you. Something something, I'm mean because I like it.
Mortimer: Meow. Ack. Meow.
Jeff: I'm doing alright. It's a 7/10. This stream is making it better.
Dani: I'm pretty great. I've been sleeping for 8hrs+ a night.
2. What tips do you have for surviving code school?
Jonan: Pomodoros, exercise, meditate, therapy.
Jeff: Do what you love, as long as it's coding. Just kidding not that. Jeff
actually said cooking. Instead of doing homework he made stew.
Sydney: I made a bunch of friends, stuck to my people. They'll get you
through it. | |
Dani: I would make a list for myself, I need a map. Keeping a list of what
I'm trying to accomplish helps me get things done and recover from
distractions. Leaving breadcrumbs for myself and for my future employers by
keeping those high-level objectives somewhere public, perhaps as milestones
on issues in GitHub. | |

3. Tech question for Sydney specifically: what's your least favorite thing about
coding? | |
Sydney: When people remove the people from coding.
Dani: Tech interviews; that is to say that, most interviews select problem areas
that are not applicable to the daily life of a programmer.
Jeff: Getting comfortable with the idea that I don't know what I'm doing and
that's my job now. | |
Jonan: I said too many words already I'm all out.
4. What inspired you to get into tech?
Dani: I got into this industry so that I could be on TheJonanShow. It's my
favorite show. It's never boring. I love it. Largely sums it up, Dani
actually came here because it's never boring and I get to learn forever.
Shout out to my partner who works in cyber security, I'm here to make tech
better for everyone. | |
Jeff: I used to poke needles into people for fun on boats. Also I taught people
to hurt each other. It was a lot of fun. I told myself I couldn't code, but
then some friends convinced me it was possible. I thought "self, if your
friends who can't do stuff good can do it, you can too."
Sydney: For every lively group chat there's always one on the side where they're
just talking dookie about you. SMASHING THE PATRIARCHY - best answer. 5 points
for WhateverHouseSydneyIsFrom.
Dani adds: I see you like to talk about DE&I... Show me your C level.
Jonan: Money. Also I like money. |
