“Open in Sublime Text” in macOS context-menu

This list has been updated for Big Sur (and later). Since I don't use these versions, this guide might still need further improvements. For older macOS versions, please see this older revision.

Open in Sublime Text

  • Open Automator
  • Quick Action
  • Set “Service receives selected” to files or folders in any application
  • Add a Run Shell Script action
  • Set the script action to /Applications/Sublime\ Text.app/Contents/SharedSupport/bin/subl -n "$@"
  • Set “Pass input” to as arguments

System Design Cheatsheet

System Design Cheatsheet

Picking the right architecture = Picking the right battles + Managing trade-offs

Basic Steps

  1. Clarify and agree on the scope of the system
  • User cases (description of sequences of events that, taken together, lead to a system doing something useful)
    • Who is going to use it?
    • How are they going to use it?

Test and class under test for Http mocking - Angular 2 beta 1

This snippet is a working example of a test against the Http service in Angular 2.0.

It is a very simple test, and provides an example of how to:

  • Provide the right wiring to the test injector
  • Inject the fake XHRBackend (i.e. MockBackend)
  • Define a potential request
  • Run the request in the framework
  • Set expectations on the result

How to squash commits in git

Squashing Git Commits

The easy and flexible way

This method avoids merge conflicts if you have periodically pulled master into your branch. It also gives you the opportunity to squash into more than 1 commit, or to re-arrange your code into completely different commits (e.g. if you ended up working on three different features but the commits were not consecutive).

Note: You cannot use this method if you intend to open a pull request to merge your feature branch. This method requires committing directly to master.

Switch to the master branch and make sure you are up to date:

# Move the files to the same directory as this program, then run it.
