Resizing image with jQuery
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.img-responsive').each(function() {
var maxWidth = 180; // Max width for the image
var maxHeight = 3000; // Max height for the image
var ratio = 0; // Used for aspect ratio
var width = $(this).width(); // Current image width
var height = $(this).height(); // Current image height
// Check if the current width is larger than the max

Push all Git tags to a remote repository. Useful for keeping a fork up to date with the upstream repo.
git push <remote> --tags
; ___ _ __ ___ __ ___
; / __|_ _ __ _| |_____ / /| __|/ \_ )
; \__ \ ' \/ _` | / / -_) _ \__ \ () / /
; |___/_||_\__,_|_\_\___\___/___/\__/___|

git tag -d 12345
# delete remote tag '12345' (eg, GitHub version too)
git push origin :refs/tags/12345

Compress PDF files with ghostscript

This can reduce files to ~15% of their size (2.3M to 345K, in one case) with no obvious degradation of quality.

ghostscript -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 -dPDFSETTINGS=/printer -dNOPAUSE -dQUIET -dBATCH -sOutputFile=output.pdf input.pdf

Other options for PDFSETTINGS:

  • /screen selects low-resolution output similar to the Acrobat Distiller "Screen Optimized" setting.
  • /ebook selects medium-resolution output similar to the Acrobat Distiller "eBook" setting.
  • /printer selects output similar to the Acrobat Distiller "Print Optimized" setting.
  • /prepress selects output similar to Acrobat Distiller "Prepress Optimized" setting.

Sets the X-CSRFToken header for every jQuery ajax non-GET request to make CSRF protection easy. This fixes the example from Django docs here: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/csrf/#ajax
$.ajaxSetup({
beforeSend: function(xhr, settings) {
if (settings.type == 'POST' || settings.type == 'PUT' || settings.type == 'DELETE') {
function getCookie(name) {
var cookieValue = null;
if (document.cookie && document.cookie != '') {
var cookies = document.cookie.split(';');
for (var i = 0; i < cookies.length; i++) {
var cookie = jQuery.trim(cookies[i]);
// Does this cookie string begin with the name we want?
