I want to make a short cable to connect the electronics box directly to an accelerometer. In the isolation_table_wiring.sch document, I find:
--- ACC ---
1. EXC +
2. ACT +
3. SENS +
4. N/C
5. N/C
6. EXC -
7. ACT -
8. SENSE -
I interpret these as following: EXC is the LVDT primary, ACT goes to the force actuator, and SENS is from the LVDT secondary.
And in the aei-sas.documentation.pdf, I find for the connector on the electronics box:
--- BOX ---
1. EXC +
2. N/C
3. COIL +
4. N/C
5. IN -
6. EXC -
7. COIL -
8. N/C
9. IN +
Here I guess the names have different meanings: EXC is the oscillator signal to the LVDT primary, COIL is the test mass actuator, and IN is the signal from the LVDT secondary.
The ribbon cable has conductors corresponding to pins on the female 9-pin D-Sub connector:
1. BLUE
6. GREEN
2. YELLOW
7. ORANGE
3. RED
8. BROWN
4. BLACK
9. WHITE
5. GRAY
Based on this interpretation, I made a cable connecting:
Acc -- Box
EXC+ 1 -- 3 COIL + RED
ACT+ 2 -- 1 EXC + BLUE
SENSE+ 3 -- 9 IN + WHITE
EXC- 6 -- 7 COIL - ORANGE
ACT- 7 -- 6 EXC - GREEN
SENS- 8 -- 5 IN - GRAY
However, this doesn't work.
Woops: of course that doesn't work. EXC should go to EXC, etc. Next try:
Acc -- Box
EXC+ 1 -- 1 EXC + BLUE
ACT+ 2 -- 3 COIL + RED
SENSE+ 3 -- 9 IN + WHITE
EXC- 6 -- 6 EXC - GREEN
ACT- 7 -- 7 COIL - ORANGE
SENS- 8 -- 5 IN - GRAY
Success!
