Aldine Contributor License Agreement v1.0 (canonical copy: https://github.com/trahloff/Aldine/blob/main/CLA.md)

Aldine Contributor License Agreement

Version 1.0

Thank you for contributing to Aldine. This agreement sets out the terms under which your contributions are accepted. It is adapted from the Apache Software Foundation's Individual Contributor License Agreement, which is the most widely used agreement of its kind.

You keep the copyright to everything you write. This agreement is a licence you grant, not a transfer of ownership. You remain free to use your own contribution anywhere else, for any purpose, including in your own projects and in proprietary software.

By signing, you agree to the following terms for any past, present, and future contribution you submit to Aldine.

1. Definitions

"You" means the individual who signs this agreement, or the legal entity on whose behalf it is signed.

"Contribution" means any original work of authorship, including any modification of or addition to existing work, that you intentionally submit to Aldine for inclusion in the project. "Submit" means any form of electronic or written communication sent to the project or its maintainers, including pull requests, patches, and issue comments containing code, but excluding anything you clearly mark as "Not a Contribution".

"The Project" means the Aldine software project and Tobias Rahloff as its copyright holder and maintainer.

2. Copyright licence

You grant the Project a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright licence to reproduce your Contribution, prepare derivative works of it, publicly display and perform it, sublicense it, and distribute it and any derivative works.

This licence includes the right to distribute your Contribution under any licence terms the Project chooses, including licences that differ from the one the project uses today, and including commercial licence terms. This is the clause that lets the Project offer a commercially licensed edition or change its licence in future without having to contact every contributor individually.

3. Patent licence

You grant the Project a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable patent licence to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer your Contribution, where that licence applies only to patent claims you own or control that are necessarily infringed by your Contribution alone or by the combination of your Contribution with the project it was submitted to.

If any entity brings patent litigation alleging that the project or a Contribution within it constitutes patent infringement, any patent licence granted under this agreement to that entity terminates as of the date the litigation is filed.

4. Your representations

You represent that:

  1. You are legally entitled to grant the licences above.
  2. Each Contribution is your original creation, or you have identified its source and licence as described in section 5.
  3. If your employer has rights to work you create, you have received permission to contribute on your employer's behalf, or your employer has waived those rights for your Contributions.

5. Third-party work

If you submit work that is not your original creation, you may submit it separately from any Contribution, clearly identifying its source and any licence or other restriction you are aware of, and marking it conspicuously as "Submitted on behalf of a third party: [named here]".

6. No obligations

You are not expected to provide support for your Contribution, and you may stop at any time. Except for the representations in section 4, your Contribution is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. The Project is under no obligation to accept, merge, or keep any Contribution.

7. Notification

You agree to notify the Project if you become aware that any statement you made in this agreement is or has become inaccurate.
