French in Action

http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3623122

A complete course for learning French, consisting of video lessons, audio, a textbook and a collection of exercises. The video is a funny fifty-episode series with a bunch of fan service and is completely in French, so it is definitely worth watching, even if you do not know English and will not do the exercises. The audio lessons are based on the material of each episode, new vocabulary and grammar are presented, and cultural features are analyzed. Due to the fact that the course is completely self-contained, contains a huge number of exercises with answers and promotes immersion in the language environment, it is one of the best options for independent study.

FSI

https://fsi-languages.yojik.eu/languages/french.html

A series of courses (textbook + audio) from the American Foreign Service Institute. The first of them (Introduction to French Phonology) is great for an initial acquaintance with French.

Pimsleur

http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3899747

A course consisting of short (20-30 minutes) audio lessons, mostly in the form of dialogues. Easy and relaxed, the course is good for additional speaking practice, but is poorly suited for the role of a main course, since it consists exclusively of audio.

Practice Makes Perfect - Complete French Grammar

https://www.google.com/search?q=complete+french+grammar+pdf

A short grammar reference with a huge number of exercises. Explanations in English, at the beginning of each topic there is a translation of the main vocabulary. The topics are not ordered and are completely independent of each other - we take the one we want to jack off and do it. Great for repeating and systematizing knowledge.

Beginner's French Reader

https://archive.org/details/beginnersfrench00pylogoog

A collection of short stories, poems and other texts, arranged in order of increasing difficulty. Only the introduction is in English, and the texts themselves are in French and without translation. Nice design. For those who have already mastered basic vocabulary and grammar.

PopoKakov

https://www.twirpx.com/file/537945/

French language textbook by Popova, Kazakova, Kovalchuk. Classic Soviet textbook. Time-tested quality (21 edition - no joke!), but the style of presentation is an acquired taste. Each lesson consists of a large number of phonetic exercises; individual phrases, text and dialogue with new vocabulary; several grammar topics. For independent study, perhaps one of the best Russian-language courses.

Popova, Kazakova. "Cours pratique de grammaire français"

http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3625495

An excellent thing for practicing grammar, a university textbook, explanations in French. Practical grammar, 400 pages consisting of solid exercises. After these two books, you will be banging Zola and Hugo like a harcore, occasionally looking into the dictionary and not stumbling at all on grammar. The only catch is that there are no answers to the exercises on the Internet, which somewhat reduces the value of this manual for independent study.

Assimil

http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2250408

For those who don't like the Soviet style, here is an alternative bourgeois course. Consisting of a textbook and audio, the course is based on parallel reading of the French text and its translation. There are few grammar exercises, the focus is on reading and natural assimilation of grammar rules.

Gaston Mauger. "French Course"

In 4 volumes. Another old Soviet textbook, written by a Frenchman. In the new lessons, the vocabulary covered is repeated, grammar is explained very simply. The downside is that the textbook is intended for classes with a teacher, and not for completely independent study, so difficulties may arise at the very beginning.

Sharikova. All the rules of the French language in diagrams and tables

Grammar reference. It is useful to keep it at hand and use it to deepen and generalize knowledge on some specific topics. It can also be used to get a preliminary general picture of the theoretical structure of the language.

"Polyglot"

http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4309644

An intellectual reality show. Not a very effective way to learn a language. Bad pronunciation, the lecturer sometimes makes mistakes, most of the time you have to listen to students who can't even string two words together. The only good thing is that there is a cutie named Sophie. :3

Other textbooks and books

  • Grammar: Ivanchenko. "Grammar of the French language in exercises". No explanation, but the model makes it clear.

  • Vocabulary: Ivanchenko. "French Language Workshop". Lots of basic vocabulary, exercises for practicing. She also has "20 oral topics", in which the same vocabulary is built in the form of stories with questions at the end.

  • Communication: Kitaygorodskaya. "French language. Intensive course". 2 columns: French and parallel translation into Russian. If you have mastered at least a little grammar, there will be no problems.

  • Bugagashenki: Frank, Rozenkova. "French joke. 200 jokes for beginners". Jokes. With voice acting. With translation of individual phrases and small inclusions of grammar, so you can start reading right at level zero, no prior knowledge is required.

  • Repetition: Ivanchenko. "Let's speak French." For those who have already mastered grammar and acquired basic vocabulary. Texts with audio (mainly on the topic of French culture, as well as adapted excerpts from French classics), questions to them and exercises. Everything is completely in French.

Grammar textbook, with audio. Everything is explained very simply, lots of pictures, short, specific lessons. Murphy style. You can start with the most basic knowledge of French. The only downside is that there are no keys to the exercises.

Series "in dialogues"

An excellent series for practicing all aspects of the language:

Other textbooks

  • Oral expression Simple topics, everything is shown in pictures, conversational speech. Excellent "crutches" to start talking.
  • A1/A2 The New Taxi B1/B2 The New Editorial
  • BLED Orthographe.

Studying a language through full-fledged courses is much more effective than snatching up unsystematic knowledge from different sources in pieces - but sometimes you want some variety.

Series

Below is a huge, unordered list of TV series, all posted directly on YouTube. Here are descriptions of some of them:

  • Extra French: the aforementioned series for learning French. It seems a bit dumb at first, but by the third episode you'll be hooked.
  • Bref: a series of ultra-short episodes (literally one and a half to two minutes). You can even take and learn by heart the text of each. Cuties included.
  • Un Gars, Une Fille: the already mentioned Quebec ubervine, translated into almost all languages of the world. Yes, Sasha + Masha is a pitiful copy of this creation of the gloomy Canadian genius.
  • Wakfu: very popular, tube cartoon. The French can do anime. Loli and drama included.
  • Bon Cop, Bad Cop: another good one from the glorious Quebecers. Spoiler: the bad cop is actually a Francophone. Strong French-Canadian swearing included.
  • Hélène et les garçons: an old sitcom classic like Friends. Lots of seasons and spin-offs, plus cuties included.
  • Maison Close: a series about the brilliant and difficult life of French courtesans of the 19th century.
