Folder Structure

Please note

While this gist has been shared and followed for years, I regret not giving more background. It was originally a gist for the engineering org I was in, not a "general suggestion" for any React app.

Typically I avoid folders altogether. Heck, I even avoid new files. If I can build an app with one 2000 line file I will. New files and folders are a pain.

Dynamically change languages in a Titanium Alloy app (for testing)
// add this to the Alloy.js file
// Set to run in ENV_DEV mode so it's used for testing withou
// having to change languages on device etc
// NO checks in place so assumes you know what you're doing, have
// the relevant strings files and specify the correct one!
// should work on Android - not tested yet!
if (ENV_DEV) {
Alloy.Globals.setLanguage = function(lang) {

A straight forward EventEmitter implemented in Javascript using ES6
let isFunction = function(obj) {
return typeof obj == 'function' || false;
};
class EventEmitter {
constructor() {
this.listeners = new Map();
}
addListener(label, callback) {
this.listeners.has(label) || this.listeners.set(label, []);

Don't use VPN services.

Don't use VPN services.

No, seriously, don't. You're probably reading this because you've asked what VPN service to use, and this is the answer.

Note: The content in this post does not apply to using VPN for their intended purpose; that is, as a virtual private (internal) network. It only applies to using it as a glorified proxy, which is what every third-party "VPN provider" does.

  • A Turkish translation can be found here, contributed by agyild.
  • There's also this article about VPN services, which is honestly better written (and has more cat pictures!) than my article.

Redux Egghead.io Notes

###Redux Egghead Video Notes###

####Introduction:#### Managing state in an application is critical, and is often done haphazardly. Redux provides a state container for JavaScript applications that will help your applications behave consistently.

Redux is an evolution of the ideas presented by Facebook's Flux, avoiding the complexity found in Flux by looking to how applications are built with the Elm language.

####1st principle of Redux:#### Everything that changes in your application including the data and ui options is contained in a single object called the state tree

System Design Cheatsheet

System Design Cheatsheet

Picking the right architecture = Picking the right battles + Managing trade-offs

Basic Steps

  1. Clarify and agree on the scope of the system
  • User cases (description of sequences of events that, taken together, lead to a system doing something useful)
    • Who is going to use it?
    • How are they going to use it?
