Starting a personal node project could be easy; starting a team node project could be challenging.

I am a developer currently working in SEEK Australia.

In my experience, common mistakes developer make when starting a projects are:

Private Docker registry with free tiers for Developers.

List of sites with free tier limits

  • Docker Hub - One private repo/image spot for free
  • Three Scale - Very generous free tier 50GB of space, 500 Pulls a month etc..
  • Canister - 20 private repos with almost no limits on free tier

How to use Mac KeyChain to store GitHub repos credentials? — First published in fullweb.io issue #108

How to use Mac KeyChain to store GitHub repos credentials?

You know the pain, you cloned a repo over HTTPS, and now Git asks you for your password each time you want to push or pull.

Chances are you already have the git credential-osxkeychain command installed. If not, just install Git with brew: brew install git.

Once installed, just tell Git to use the KeyChain to store your credentials:

git config --global credential.helper osxkeychain

(we) will also include download links in release notes for future releases.

Live stream a database dump (or any other STDOUT) using Rails 4. Why would you want this? If you have a large database dump and want to avoid storing it in memory as Rails streams it. This allows pipe the dump directly into the http response instead of storing it as a file, sending it, and then deleting it. Let me know what you think! I've teste…
class DatabaseController < ApplicationController
def database_dump
database = Rails.configuration.database_configuration[Rails.env]["database"]
send_file_headers!(:type => 'application/octet-stream', :filename => "#{database}_#{Time.now.to_s(:human)}.backup")
pipe = IO.popen("pg_dump '#{database}' -F c")
stream = response.stream
while (line = pipe.gets)
stream.write line
sleep 0.0001 # HACK: Prevent server instance from sleeping forever if client disconnects during download
