Common software issues for PSX / DESR

Intended for users that want to replace the HDD with alternative devices.

Check the model number (e.g. DESR-XXXX) against the sections below.

Models

PSX1

For the following models:

• DESR-5000
• DESR-7000
• DESR-5100
• DESR-7100

Issues

Error screen after PSX logo

Usually indicates HDD does not have installed files.

• Boot from memory card. Phenom Mod sells the sd2psx which already has it set up.
• Run "PSX1 1.31 lite fresh image installer" from FAT32 USB
• Using wLaunchELF_R3Z, copy the contents of hdd0:/__system/BIEXEC-SYSTEM/ to xfrom:/BIEXEC-SYSTEM/
• Use https://github.com/pcm720/psxrepart/releases/latest

Hang on boot after XMB is loaded

Usually indicates the HDD has corrupted database or flash version is mismatched.

• Boot from memory card. Phenom Mod sells the sd2psx which already has it set up.
• Using wLaunchELF_R3Z, copy the contents of hdd0:/__system/BIEXEC-SYSTEM/ to xfrom:/BIEXEC-SYSTEM/
• Using wLaunchELF_R3Z, delete hdd0:/__system/registry.db

PSX2

For the following models:

• DESR-5500
• DESR-7500
• DESR-5700
• DESR-7700

Logs

Log files are written and can assist in debugging issues. Using wLaunchElf, use the paths described in https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps2/PSX#Log_files

Firmware

For use with custom firmware CFW to allow almost any HDD/SSD disk to work:

It is important to use the correct firmware for the target model.
Otherwise, there is no method to recover without specific software at this time.
