How to download Blob Stream

Some video streaming site will hide the download link behind a blob format which will get resolved internally. If you inspect the video player in Chrome you can see something like this:

That blob can be downloaded directly. How to download this?

1. Open the Chrome developer tools and switch to Network tab.

2. Look for the request to a file with .m3u8 extension. This will be the playlist that contains every segment of the video. Sample .m3u8 file and its content:

3. Click on the request > Header > Copy the Request URL:

4. Open VLC (version 3.0.14 in this example) > File > Open Network..

5. Pass in the URL to the .m3u8 file.

6. Select Stream output.

7. Select Settings > Select Display the stream locally (not sure what this does) > Select File > Encapsulation Method > MP4 > OK.

8. Open.

9. Just let the stream play to finish.
