10:06:00 AM RickNashleanas: Newbie!!
10:06:14 AM webchick-scribe: Answer is: We don't have structure agenda, we do these as converations with community
10:06:21 AM webchick-scribe: We've done these for awhile, we'll kind of figure them out as we go.
10:06:33 AM webchick-scribe: if people prefer formal agenda, we can do that, but we're kind of making them up as we go you're part of that process
10:06:56 AM webchick-scribe: Floor opened for additions to agenda.
10:07:01 AM webchick-scribe: Else I'm just going to talk a lot
10:07:10 AM jredding: *and I do talk a lot *

10:07:29 AM webchick-scribe: and did receive one question through the webform
10:07:36 AM webchick-scribe: But first, want to remind everyone of a few things:
10:07:44 AM webchick-scribe: 1) If you haven't purchased tickets for DrupalCon denver, that's coming up!
10:07:50 AM webchick-scribe: we're on track to hold conference for over 3K people
10:07:56 AM webchick-scribe: not final number yet, still selling tickets
10:08:02 AM webchick-scribe: It's just going to be *awesome*

10:08:13 AM webchick-scribe: Training openings have opened up
10:08:24 AM webchick-scribe: Module maintainers, etc. are doing trainings
10:08:27 AM webchick-scribe: But space is limted
10:08:39 AM webchick-scribe: Party ticket is a separate ticket because it's expensive/awesome
10:08:48 AM webchick-scribe: for an extra $25, you can party all night with other Drupal people
10:08:51 AM webchick-scribe: includes food/drinks for evening
10:09:06 AM webchick-scribe: You're looking at partying with 2000 other people
10:09:09 AM webchick-scribe: that's a big awesome party
10:09:14 AM webchick-scribe: Denver shaping up to be absolutely amazing
10:09:20 AM webchick-scribe: Really excited for Mitchell Baker from Mozilla

10:09:47 AM webchick-scribe: any questions on Denver?
10:09:56 AM webchick-scribe: Want to know what local team is doing, what's brewing there?
10:10:12 AM webchick-scribe: Q: Is there a ski trip involved in Denver?
10:10:18 AM jredding: http://denver2012.drupal.org/ski-board-trip
10:10:25 AM webchick-scribe: There IS a ski trip! It's not a conference unless we party for an entire week.
10:10:29 AM webchick-scribe: They're leaving friday, coming back sunday
10:10:32 AM webchick-scribe: going to breckenridge
10:10:39 AM webchick-scribe: not part of conference, something local team is putting together
10:10:45 AM webchick-scribe: but right now, there's a good number of people registered for that trip.
10:10:48 AM RickNashleanas: http://denver2012.drupal.org/ski-board-trip
10:10:52 AM webchick-scribe: $60 round-triip for transportation
10:11:01 AM webchick-scribe: 30+ people signed up
10:11:08 AM webchick-scribe: Probably going to be 100+ people;
10:11:17 AM webchick-scribe: If you want to ski with your closest Drupal buddies, it's going on!
10:11:32 AM webchick-scribe: If people aren't aware, one of the things you should take a look at on the Denver site
10:11:39 AM webchick-scribe: there's a top-level item called Community
10:11:45 AM webchick-scribe: Attendess - Who's showing up, volunteers
10:11:52 AM webchick-scribe: other things happening too
10:11:58 AM webchick-scribe: hackathon, get involved in coding contests, sprints
10:12:13 AM webchick-scribe: sit down next to great drupal developers and crank out some code, learn from best minds in Drupal community
10:12:18 AM webchick-scribe: that's listed there, as well as parties going on
10:12:26 AM webchick-scribe: thursday nights' trivia night
10:12:30 AM webchick-scribe: all those things are listed up there
10:12:37 AM webchick-scribe: if you haven't visited lately, please do
10:12:48 AM webchick-scribe: Let's take another DrupalCon topic!
10:12:54 AM webchick-scribe: DEnver is happening, end of March
10:12:57 AM webchick-scribe: We do have DrupalCon Munich coming up

10:13:36 AM jredding: http://munich2012.drupal.org
10:13:41 AM webchick-scribe: if you haven't had a chance, head ^^ there
10:13:49 AM webchick-scribe: (mmm. pretzels)
10:13:55 AM webchick-scribe: Any other questions on European DrupalCon?
10:13:59 AM nick_vh: what is the status? going well?
10:14:12 AM webchick-scribe: Also going to throw out… just ended, want to throw it out there.
10:14:24 AM jredding: https://association.drupal.org/node/14938
farriss [[email protected]] entered the room. (10:14:24 AM)
10:14:42 AM webchick-scribe: This is a survey for European DrupalCon 2013
10:14:48 AM webchick-scribe: *Today* is the last day to get your voice heard
10:14:54 AM webchick-scribe: of where you'd like to see the next city
10:15:00 AM webchick-scribe: Barcelona, Stockholm, Warsaw, Prague...
10:15:03 AM webchick-scribe: We'd like to hear from you
10:15:08 AM webchick-scribe: Where should the next DrupalCon be in 2013?
10:15:10 AM webchick-scribe: We are planners
10:15:13 AM webchick-scribe: We're 1.5 years out
10:15:20 AM webchick-scribe: (That's also when we hope D8 will be released! EEE)
arianek [[email protected]/user/158886/view] entered the room. (10:15:33 AM)
10:15:36 AM webchick-scribe: Nick:
10:15:44 AM webchick-scribe: I'd like to know the status of DrupalCon Munich. Is everything going well?
10:15:51 AM webchick-scribe: Everything planned, or is there still lots of stuff that needs to happen?
10:15:55 AM webchick-scribe: Jacob:
10:16:02 AM webchick-scribe: With DrupalCon Munuch, things going rather well
10:16:08 AM webchick-scribe: venue/logistics nailed down, schedule laid down
10:16:16 AM webchick-scribe: association staff neil kent and stephanie
10:16:21 AM webchick-scribe: working with us to get munich situated / put together
10:16:25 AM webchick-scribe: they're pulling together a content team.
10:16:30 AM webchick-scribe: everything's going according to plan, going well
10:16:36 AM webchick-scribe: sponsorship coming together
10:16:43 AM webchick-scribe: we do sponsor sales before ticket sales, sponsors very strong
10:16:50 AM cweagans: is there a decision made for the next North American DrupalCon location?
10:16:51 AM webchick-scribe: good indication of how strong the conference will be
10:16:55 AM webchick-scribe: I'm really excited about it, it's going well.
10:17:03 AM gdemet: jredding: what's the venue capacity size for munich?
10:17:11 AM farriss: cweagans: yes
10:17:19 AM webchick-scribe: In terms fo size of munch, we're looking at 2000 people, give or take a few hundred
10:17:25 AM webchick-scribe: munich*
10:17:35 AM webchick-scribe: I personally thin kthat we're going to see strong growth in europe year over year from london
10:17:40 AM webchick-scribe: we already saw strong growth from CPH
10:17:44 AM webchick-scribe: we're going to see the same thing in Europe.
10:17:48 AM webchick-scribe: 1700-2000 people
10:17:55 AM webchick-scribe: i think we're going to be up there.
10:18:02 AM webchick-scribe: total capacity is 2000, give or take.
10:18:20 AM cweagans: "Eagans", and I can't talk on the phone - at work.
10:18:28 AM webchick-scribe: cweagans: DAMN IT> I always do that!
10:18:32 AM webchick-scribe: (reads cweagans answer(
10:18:33 AM cweagans: webchick-scribe: no worries
10:18:36 AM webchick-scribe: question*
10:18:39 AM webchick-scribe: Short answr: Yes!
10:18:40 AM webchick-scribe: However.
10:18:49 AM webchick-scribe: Not going to announce it here, going to announce at DrupalCon denver.
10:18:53 AM webchick-scribe: a few reaonss for that:
10:18:55 AM webchick-scribe: 1) Financial one
10:19:09 AM webchick-scribe: learned the hard way that to keep costs down, we need to work with multuple cities at the same time, have to compete
10:19:23 AM webchick-scribe: 2) have to negotiate with hotels, etc. without it public
10:19:31 AM webchick-scribe: if we announce first, hotels jack up their rates
10:19:40 AM webchick-scribe: then we're stuck, and wthey know it
10:19:46 AM webchick-scribe: we negotiate first, get contract signed, then we announce.
10:19:48 AM webchick-scribe: we're there.
10:19:53 AM webchick-scribe: the second reason though more of a community one.
10:20:02 AM webchick-scribe: We work with local community
10:20:08 AM webchick-scribe: and our conferences are *so * much about our comunity
10:20:16 AM webchick-scribe: not just a conference, it's about the community, big family reuinon
10:20:23 AM webchick-scribe: also passing torch from one community to the next
10:20:33 AM webchick-scribe: it's neat to have that pasing of the torch at DrupalCon
10:20:35 AM webchick-scribe: we'll have that at Denver
10:20:36 AM davereid: olympics++
10:20:46 AM webchick-scribe: Denver team will pass torch to next local team
10:20:51 AM webchick-scribe: It represents how strong of a community we are
10:20:57 AM coltrane: *readies a friendly torch*
10:20:59 AM cweagans: Drupolympics?
10:20:59 AM webchick-scribe: and how we value being an international, worldwide community'
10:21:03 AM RickNashleanas: Yea Denver!!!
10:21:04 AM webchick-scribe: but also value local community as well
10:21:08 AM tsvenson: *voted for Barcelona 2013 as #1*
10:21:19 AM cweagans: thanks for the detailed answer, Jacob
10:21:23 AM webchick-scribe: (/me does not know what half of the cities on that list weere )
10:21:34 AM webchick-scribe: Ok, no more questions about DrupalCon Europe, would like to talk about DrupalCon Sao Paulo
10:21:48 AM tsvenson: webchick-scribe: All beautiful cities in Europe
10:21:59 AM webchick-scribe: About 2 yeasr ago
10:22:03 AM webchick-scribe: at DrupalCon SF
10:22:15 AM webchick-scribe: Myself and several other people were taksed from DA board and community leaders
10:22:24 AM webchick-scribe: with assignment to host DrupalCon in South America or Asia Pacific
10:22:28 AM webchick-scribe: Since that time, we've been working on it
attiks|away [[email protected]] entered the room. (10:22:29 AM)
10:22:34 AM webchick-scribe: next one will be in South America
10:22:40 AM webchick-scribe: so we're looking for potential DrupalCon either in 2012 or 2013
10:22:42 AM webchick-scribe: to be held in SA
10:22:46 AM webchick-scribe: We're not sure on exact city
10:23:01 AM webchick-scribe: Similar to DrupalCon NA, don't have a contract signed yet
10:23:08 AM webchick-scribe: It's been a little challenging to host
10:23:20 AM webchick-scribe: we've worked with two different partners we were going to colocte with, but didn't materialize
10:23:25 AM webchick-scribe: they either shifted conference or canceled altogether
10:23:30 AM webchick-scribe: series of challenges
10:23:34 AM webchick-scribe: right now we're getting very, very close'
10:23:36 AM webchick-scribe: maybe as close as tomorrow!
10:23:42 AM webchick-scribe: to having a signed contract to having DrupalCon in SA
10:23:49 AM webchick-scribe: thats what this question gets to
10:23:56 AM webchick-scribe: (pasting)
10:23:58 AM jredding: The Brazilian Drupal community has manifested concerns about the proposed venue for DrupalCon São Paulo, since it usually hosts a PHP conference many of us take part of.
10:24:03 AM jredding: We are all very pleased with the idea of hosting a DrupalCon and we would like to help as much as possible — several of us are Drupal Association members as well. How can we participate more actively of this decision and of the general DrupalCon São Paulo organization?
10:24:43 AM webchick-scribe: This is a great question
10:24:46 AM webchick-scribe: I'm going to pull up g.d.o
10:24:51 AM webchick-scribe: which is the best place to get involved
10:25:01 AM webchick-scribe: on g.d.o there is a latin america group
10:25:05 AM webchick-scribe: where they're discussing this.
10:25:09 AM webchick-scribe: where should DrupalCon be held, which city...
10:25:14 AM webchick-scribe: 3 really amazing community leaders in this area
10:25:19 AM webchick-scribe: Fabiano, Fernando, Nick
10:25:30 AM webchick-scribe: 3 amazing people., really working hard to make this happen
10:25:35 AM webchick-scribe: so if you want to get involved, g.d.o is the place to go
10:25:37 AM webchick-scribe: (link anyone?)
10:25:48 AM webchick-scribe: Concerns they have is that we currently are looking at a few different venues
10:25:53 AM cweagans: how will DrupalCon South America fit into the schedule in relation to the North American DrupalCons and the European DrupalCons?
10:25:56 AM webchick-scribe: one venue might have some quality standards that people have expressed conferns about
10:25:59 AM webchick-scribe: nothing set in stone
10:26:02 AM webchick-scribe: when we looka t DrupalCon SA
10:26:04 AM webchick-scribe: when we look anywhere
10:26:09 AM webchick-scribe: we always have quality standard we go through
10:26:12 AM webchick-scribe: look at venue contracts, etc.
10:26:18 AM webchick-scribe: make sure it'll be a quality conference before we sign it.
10:26:23 AM webchick-scribe: I've heard concerns over Sao Paulo
10:26:36 AM webchick-scribe: I'm confident that the DA + local team can put on an awesome conference
10:26:54 AM webchick-scribe: Anyone on the call with concerns to add?
10:27:05 AM webchick-scribe: (acknowledgement of cweagans's question)
10:27:36 AM webchick-scribe: Ok, let me answer question
10:27:43 AM webchick-scribe: so how will it fit into schedule of other DrupalCons/
10:27:49 AM webchick-scribe: This is the biggest concern of expanding to 3 drupalcons
10:27:52 AM webchick-scribe: it'll fit in the downtown
10:27:55 AM webchick-scribe: downtime*
10:27:59 AM webchick-scribe: during winter in North America
10:28:00 AM webchick-scribe: Nov - Feb
10:28:06 AM webchick-scribe: Also want to put emphasis
10:28:18 AM webchick-scribe: the DrupalCon in SA will be predominently in Spanish/portuguese
10:28:29 AM webchick-scribe: not designed to be a traveling Drupalcon, per se, want to strengthen community in latin america
10:28:36 AM webchick-scribe: growing comunity there doing great work and contributions to our project
10:28:43 AM webchick-scribe: but not everyone can travel to NA/Europe. Cost, time, etc.
10:28:51 AM webchick-scribe: so we're bringing DrupalCon to those communities that are growing/strengthening
10:29:05 AM webchick-scribe: but if you would like to head there, it'll be in the interim time between conferences (NA/Europe's winter)
10:29:11 AM webchick-scribe: you can be warm, AND meet Drupal people!
10:29:14 AM webchick-scribe: that's kind of awesome.
10:29:27 AM webchick-scribe: Any other questions?
10:29:54 AM webchick-scribe: opening floor before we move on
10:29:59 AM webchick-scribe: you guys aren't really talkative tyoday!
10:30:04 AM webchick-scribe: ok, have another topic
10:30:20 AM webchick-scribe: DrupalCon is happening, I'm excited for it. Munich is coming up, SA continues, hear concerns, and want to hear more.
10:30:27 AM webchick-scribe: Bring up your concerns
10:30:36 AM webchick-scribe: But what I'm really excited about is the initiatives for 2012
10:30:40 AM webchick-scribe: for those who might not be aware, quick background
10:30:54 AM webchick-scribe: in 2012, in Jan of this year, the Association staff was tasked with list of initiatives from the Board of Directors
10:31:03 AM webchick-scribe: BoD came up with 6 objectives for the DA to achieve in 2012
10:31:05 AM webchick-scribe: they include:
10:31:09 AM webchick-scribe: - Improve collaboration tools on d..o
10:31:10 AM webchick-scribe: - DrupalDays
10:31:17 AM webchick-scribe: - Univeristy outreach
10:31:21 AM webchick-scribe: - Training directory
10:31:35 AM webchick-scribe: - Better regional events for developers/conttributors
10:31:45 AM webchick-scribe: - Make d.o awesome for site builders
10:32:01 AM webchick-scribe: Two main people on d.o that we're hoping to target as our audience
10:32:05 AM webchick-scribe: contribitors/developers to the project
10:32:15 AM webchick-scribe: and site builders, you're an architect/engineer, building Drupal for your clients
10:32:20 AM webchick-scribe: need to find modules, documentation, etc.
10:32:25 AM webchick-scribe: need to find modules that are well-used, reviewed.
10:32:27 AM jredding: http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-association
10:32:29 AM webchick-scribe: we took those objectives
10:32:33 AM webchick-scribe: posted at ^^
10:32:44 AM webchick-scribe: and this is where we worked and created a plan for 2012
10:32:49 AM webchick-scribe: you can read how we plan to achieve these objectives.
10:32:53 AM webchick-scribe: two i want to talk about today are 1 and 6
10:32:58 AM webchick-scribe: "Make Drupal.org rock for developers"
10:33:03 AM webchick-scribe: "Make Drupal.org awesome for site builders"
RickNashleanas left the room. (10:33:09 AM)
10:33:13 AM webchick-scribe: these are two different end goals we're looking to help
10:33:16 AM webchick-scribe: they both involve drupal.org
10:33:21 AM webchick-scribe: right now, we are working to achieve these objectives
10:33:30 AM webchick-scribe: this morning, there were two posts
10:33:44 AM webchick-scribe: 1) I posted an introduction to tyler ward (twardnw)
10:33:46 AM twardnw: *waves*
10:33:51 AM webchick-scribe: He is the DA's first intern, that is focused on drupal.org!
10:33:58 AM webchick-scribe: (*applause* )
10:34:11 AM cweagans: twardnw++
10:34:11 AM webchick-scribe: he's working out of the office, getting a lot of guidance from neil drumm
10:34:20 AM webchick-scribe: he's working on getting tasks unstuck in issue queue
10:34:24 AM webchick-scribe: get them up on drupal.orh
10:34:28 AM webchick-scribe: and get gears turnning
10:34:31 AM webchick-scribe: This is a start
10:34:34 AM webchick-scribe: it's a small start
10:34:37 AM webchick-scribe: we're still a growing organization
10:34:39 AM tsvenson: twardnw++
10:34:43 AM webchick-scribe: it's a start of what we're growing which is a d.o dev team
10:34:53 AM webchick-scribe: over 2012, we're going to start to grow a dev team paid by DA, part of DA staff
10:34:55 AM webchick-scribe: their job is to work on d.o
10:35:05 AM webchick-scribe: unstick roadblocks, remove impediments/barriers, make Drupal.org an awesome place to collaborate
10:35:14 AM webchick-scribe: things like we saw in the past, we want to eliminate
10:35:20 AM webchick-scribe: e.g. +1 subscribe
10:35:27 AM webchick-scribe: in the past, you had to write a comment "+1" or "subscribe"
10:35:31 AM webchick-scribe: this lastetd 3 years
10:35:38 AM webchick-scribe: after we knew we didn't want that
10:35:41 AM webchick-scribe: we don't want that to happen again
10:35:48 AM webchick-scribe: so we're stepping up
10:35:51 AM webchick-scribe: changing our model a bit.
10:35:58 AM webchick-scribe: getting some internsl, hiring dev team,
10:36:04 AM webchick-scribe: what does it look like? can't really tell you
10:36:10 AM webchick-scribe: doing this with the community, what works, what doesn't work
10:36:19 AM coltrane: Q: is there a meta issue for listing more infra-related d.o issues? (I want to +1 the bakery update)
10:36:24 AM webchick-scribe: what's taking the association time in ramping up is we're trying to find the best things to work on
10:36:28 AM webchick-scribe: and how to properly commnunicate that out
10:36:34 AM webchick-scribe: On that related topic, angie's on the call
10:36:43 AM webchick-scribe: and we just sat down yesterday and had an entire pow-wow
10:36:48 AM webchick-scribe: and then this morning you posted a thing on g.d.o
10:36:51 AM webchick-scribe: (someone else scribe?")
10:36:51 AM cweagans: link to gdo post?
10:37:01 AM jredding: http://groups.drupal.org/node/213898
cweagans is now known as cweagans-scribe (10:37:14 AM)
beeradb [[email protected]] entered the room. (10:37:16 AM)
10:37:19 AM cweagans-scribe: we're currently coming up with priority list
10:37:22 AM cweagans-scribe: for drupal.org dev team
10:37:34 AM cweagans-scribe: we have a voting site set up for d.o suggestions
10:37:42 AM cweagans-scribe: so people can vote for the features they want
10:37:57 AM cweagans-scribe: there's an open period of feedback for people to identify the issues they want to see fixe3d
10:37:59 AM jredding: coltrane ^^^ (link above)
10:38:16 AM coltrane: ideascale is feature focused, nobody is going to upvote fixing the baggage we're carrying along
10:38:22 AM cweagans-scribe: in addition, one of the functions of the dev team is being an on-ramp for volunteer contributors
10:38:43 AM cweagans-scribe: in the later half of 2011, there was a bunch of work done on documenting the process for making changes to d.o
10:39:15 AM cweagans-scribe: goals: 1) work on high-impact improvements in a team, 2) be available during an office hours type thing
10:39:40 AM cweagans-scribe: we've run this idea past infra maintainers, and they are really excited about it
10:39:53 AM cweagans-scribe: takes some of the d.o concerns off of their plate and moves it to volunteers
10:40:00 AM cweagans-scribe: team will be small, and won't be able to fix everything
10:40:09 AM cweagans-scribe: more volunteers = more improvements to d.o = more awesome d.o
10:40:30 AM webchick-scribe: http://drupal-association.ideascale.com/
10:40:31 AM cweagans-scribe: DA dev team resources should be used where they will be most effective
10:40:50 AM cweagans-scribe: go vote at the link webchick-scribe posted for d.o initiatives
10:41:06 AM cweagans-scribe: webchick will be presenting a more formal version of this to the DA board in the coming weeks
10:41:13 AM cweagans-scribe: *can't type as fast as Angie*
cweagans-scribe is now known as cweagans (10:41:16 AM)
10:41:20 AM webchick-scribe: haha i also type STUPIDLY fast
You are now known as webchick (10:41:24 AM)
10:41:25 AM cweagans: yeah you do.
10:41:25 AM cweagans:
10:41:25 AM webchick: Jacob:
10:41:28 AM webchick: Also want to add something
10:41:35 AM webchick: The DA employs Neil Drumm
10:41:40 AM webchick: He's been with the project for a LONG time
10:41:46 AM coltrane: drumm++
10:41:49 AM webchick: a core commiter, reall understands the drupal communoity
10:41:50 AM cweagans: drumm++
10:41:51 AM webchick: drupal.org
10:42:01 AM webchick: Soeone on IRC noted that no one's going to vote up "baggage"
10:42:04 AM webchick: like porting modules, etc.
10:42:06 AM webchick: That's true.
10:42:12 AM webchick: ideascale is a way of getting feedback from the comunity
10:42:19 AM webchick: but these will be put into bigger picture
10:42:23 AM webchick: of what's happening with the whole thing
10:42:31 AM webchick: we need to work with infra team. does this work with server loads.
10:42:37 AM webchick: does it fit with proejct module, etc.
10:42:43 AM webchick: so it doesn't mean we're going to do it right away
10:42:50 AM webchick: it means we are tgoing to loko at how it fits into the bigger picture
10:42:53 AM webchick: that's why we have neil drumm
10:43:11 AM webchick: we're not going to take the list and go "OK let's just do it!" and then forget important stuff like migrating to D7
10:43:17 AM webchick: we're buikding that team so we can have that continual plan
10:43:19 AM tsvenson: drumm++ (the real communoid)
10:43:23 AM webchick: drumm++
10:43:51 AM cweagans: drupal7++
10:43:54 AM cweagans:
10:45:25 AM webchick: Other questions on drupal.org?
10:45:27 AM webchick: I personally think this is awsome
10:45:46 AM webchick: ok, well if no questions
10:46:07 AM twardnw: lol
10:46:20 AM webchick: when you see twardnw in the issue queue, say hi.
10:46:21 AM tsvenson: Q: Will improvements like the rich editor also be implemented on g.d.o?
10:46:24 AM webchick: he's about 30 fet away from me
10:46:34 AM webchick: so say hi, and think about how best to communicate and make those proerities
10:46:55 AM webchick: (reading tsvenson's qestion)
10:46:59 AM webchick: That's a good question
10:47:18 AM webchick: this is a situation where we'd escalte that from ideascale to the g.d.o admins to try and provide more cohesive bond between the two
10:47:25 AM webchick: i'm hesitant of saying yes or no on that
10:47:29 AM webchick: that's really a Q for neil drumm
10:47:34 AM webchick: that's why we have an issue queue. post it there.
10:48:00 AM tsvenson: Q: I also think a better account management system, is needed for the various sites. Is that something being looked at?
10:48:20 AM jredding: tsvenson: Bakery?
10:48:32 AM cweagans: how will the DA dev team hiring process work and/or when will it happen? /me is interested in applying!
10:48:38 AM tsvenson: That is a better working Single-Sign-On and related stuff.
reiss left the room (quit: Quit: Page closed). (10:48:57 AM)
10:49:13 AM webchick: as angie said we won't be able to get everything done
10:49:24 AM webchick: but I actually think it's awesome that our website is community-maintained
10:49:31 AM webchick: if you want to see a change "i wish this little thing was changed"
10:49:33 AM webchick: you can do it!
10:49:40 AM webchick: very few other sites like that if you didn't liek the site you can change it
10:49:43 AM webchick: but in this case you can
10:49:46 AM webchick: we'll give you a dev site, give you the code
10:49:54 AM webchick: you can have your own sandbox of d.o and tweak it however you likem
10:49:58 AM webchick: submit it as a patch to d.o
10:50:00 AM webchick: tyhat's kind of awesome!
10:50:14 AM webchick: So a question about hiring process.
10:50:20 AM webchick: Stay tuned on association.drupal.org
10:50:24 AM webchick: for any job openings we have
10:50:28 AM webchick: in terms of when, we're working that out right now
10:50:29 AM tsvenson: *142% in agreement with webchick about the community development of d.o.*
10:50:35 AM webchick: we have to raise revenue to hire the team
10:50:39 AM webchick: we haven't found money tree yet
10:50:43 AM webchick: working with sponsors, working on drupal.org
10:50:52 AM webchick: you'll see changes to the hosting page, which is a revenue generator for theDA
10:51:00 AM webchick: raising traffic to that page, helps raise money for this dev team
stevepurkiss [[email protected]] entered the room. (10:51:05 AM)
10:51:08 AM webchick: If you have ideas on raising traffic there, while being respectful to community
10:51:11 AM webchick: very open to ideas there.
10:51:21 AM webchick: If you have ideas on how to raise these funds, get in touch
10:51:21 AM tsvenson: webchick: Have you looked at how the apache foundation is raising funds? Might be some inspiration there.
10:51:29 AM webchick: it will happen in relattion to our fundraising
10:51:41 AM webchick: (reads tsvenson's question)
10:51:46 AM webchick: If this is of interest to you
10:51:53 AM webchick: and you're curious how inner workings of Association works
10:51:54 AM cweagans: *thinks there should be a link to drupal.org/hosting on http://drupal.org/start*
10:51:56 AM webchick: two things:
10:51:58 AM webchick: 1) Board meetings
10:52:00 AM jredding: https://association.drupal.org/about/meet
10:52:03 AM webchick: if you haven't yet, please visit ^^
10:52:14 AM webchick: It's same website where you might've found dial-in information for town hall meeting
10:52:18 AM webchick: 'list of meetings on that page, which include board meetings
10:52:26 AM webchick: just like town hall, the board meets on voice calls
10:52:33 AM webchick: in DrupalCon denver, wil be meting around a table
10:52:37 AM webchick: in person, open
10:52:43 AM webchick: you could ask questrions like that.
10:52:46 AM webchick: the short version is yes!
10:52:51 AM webchick: we have people on our board working on that.
10:53:02 AM cweagans: are all of the DA meetings are DrupalCon Denver open meetings? or just the Board Meetings?
10:53:04 AM webchick: e.g. Danese Cooper from Wikimedia Foundation and Mike Woster from Linux Foundation
10:53:14 AM webchick: You can hear what's going on. if you have suggestions, send them in
10:53:20 AM webchick: at DrupalCon denver, you can go *into* the board meeting
10:53:27 AM webchick: the board meeting is open, will be meeting around a table with an agenda
10:53:32 AM webchick: you're invited to come, watch, learn, udnertand
10:53:42 AM webchick: we do ask that you listen in, so similar to watching congress/senate
10:53:47 AM cweagans: there's also the "Community Leaders Meeting" and the "Advoisory/Board Strategy Session" - are those open?
10:53:49 AM webchick: primarily because they have a LOT to do in a short period of time
10:53:56 AM webchick: they are run very tightly
10:54:07 AM webchick: but you can understand how the board meets, what they talk about
10:54:16 AM webchick: and give suggestions for next meeting / at town hall
10:54:25 AM webchick: also, board meeting moinutes are avaialable on a.d.o website
10:54:28 AM jredding: https://association.drupal.org/about/governance/meeting-minutes
10:54:41 AM webchick: Our meeting minutes, as well as board packets which board uses to make decisions are all open/public
10:54:50 AM webchick: so you can dig into that and figure out how we're building our funding model
10:54:56 AM webchick: I think that's a great suggestion
10:55:02 AM webchick: and love the fac yyou're getting involved
10:55:03 AM webchick: so thanks!
10:55:11 AM webchick: Ok, so a few othr questions
10:55:20 AM webchick: Another meeting I just posted today
10:55:22 AM webchick: At DrupalCon denver
10:55:27 AM webchick: again at /about/meet is best place
10:55:30 AM webchick: several meetings that are there:
10:55:38 AM webchick: 1) community leaders meeting on Tuesday
10:55:43 AM webchick: just announced today, working with Doug Vann
10:55:52 AM webchick: running this meeting after the sessions, before the party
10:55:58 AM webchick: commiunity leaders meeting.
10:56:08 AM webchick: if you're on this call, and you are/know of a community leader
10:56:10 AM webchick: tell them about this.
10:56:26 AM webchick: if you organize camp, run a UG, if you've done something in the community to pull people together face-to-face or virtual sprint
10:56:33 AM webchick: done some sort of organizing
10:56:38 AM webchick: we want to get everyone in a room to connect/collaborate
10:56:50 AM webchick: come out, connect, meet those people
10:56:51 AM webchick: share ideas
10:56:55 AM webchick: and let
10:57:01 AM webchick: s atlk about how the DA can support your wirk
10:57:11 AM webchick: to build stronger communities and stronger events
10:57:12 AM tsvenson: Would just like to add that I was recently involved a little in the election planning/supervising and can only say that webchick, nedjo, jredding, and the others, where incredible open and friendly in the discussion. Really a great bunch och peopl in DA that only have the communitys best in mind!
10:57:15 AM webchick: for those who don'tk now Doug Vann
10:57:20 AM webchick: he's a wild and crazy man who just organizes
10:57:27 AM webchick: he's got out ther and organized a number of camps in midwest
10:57:29 AM webchick: loves this communty
10:57:32 AM webchick: wants to see camps be very strong
10:57:41 AM webchick: and working with other organizers
10:57:50 AM webchick: (tsvenson aw! )
10:57:56 AM webchick: Any other questions?
10:58:08 AM webchick: in addition to that, there's a "meet the association" session at Tuesday afternoon
10:58:13 AM webchick: community leaders session in early afternoon
10:58:16 AM webchick: there's a board meeting
10:58:22 AM webchick: on thursday, march 22
10:58:30 AM webchick: after meeting, there's a strategy session for advisotry board
10:58:40 AM webchick: that's a meeting for advisors for the DA
10:58:47 AM webchick: going to hunker down and create strategy
10:58:52 AM webchick: those are the main meetings happening at DrupalCOn denver
10:58:54 AM webchick: related to DA.
10:58:56 AM webchick: pretty excited for it
10:59:08 AM webchick: not to mention you'll see us in a lot of BoFs
10:59:19 AM webchick: all right!
10:59:27 AM webchick: so we've hit our hour mark
10:59:30 AM webchick: not seeing a lot of actiivty in IRC
10:59:33 AM webchick: did I miss any questions?
10:59:42 AM webchick: any lingering qiestions/suggestions?
10:59:46 AM cweagans: WHO'S READY FOR DRUPALCON!?
10:59:47 AM cweagans:
10:59:50 AM webchick: YEAH!!!!!!
10:59:51 AM geekgirlweb:
11:00:01 AM webchick: So let me kick one last questionto you guys
11:00:03 AM beeradb: I think it's safe to say the Denver team is
11:00:04 AM webchick: before we end this call.
11:00:06 AM webchick: how are these?
11:00:09 AM webchick: how are the town hall meetings?
11:00:17 AM coltrane: ++
11:00:21 AM webchick: are we getting some info out there? do you like the format? would you like more formal agenda?
11:00:24 AM cweagans: this is the first one that I've listened in on. I think the informal nature of it is pretty nice.
11:00:26 AM farriss: how many people are on the phone?
11:00:28 AM webchick: run like a meeting rather than "meet the association"?
11:00:30 AM gdemet: jredding: there's some concerns among the international community that "town hall" is too American-centric a term
11:00:41 AM gdemet: people outside the US don't know what that means
11:00:44 AM twardnw: perhaps the questions which are posted via the website could be made public before the meeting?
11:00:48 AM webchick: (acknowledging gdemet's concern)
11:00:59 AM webchick: (Let's call it AMERICA EAGLE FREEDOM MEETING)
11:01:12 AM webchick: Town hall originates in poilitics
11:01:17 AM stevepurkiss: and we want some more international times published
11:01:19 AM cweagans: and the information received in here is information that I probably would not otherwise have been aware of
11:01:22 AM webchick: where everyone goes to the town's hall and holds an open meeting
11:01:29 AM webchick: I'm all for calling it whatever is the most descriptive
11:01:34 AM gdemet: jredding: it's a very appropriate term, but people outside the US just aren't as familiar with it
11:01:36 AM webchick: this is a meeting that's open to everyone/anyone
11:01:41 AM webchick: to ask any questions
11:01:45 AM webchick: I set aside my time, my staff's time,
11:01:48 AM webchick: to connect with the community
11:01:51 AM beeradb: not specific to the format, but... I've listened in on a couple of these meetings the past but not been a regular attendee. My reaction to this meeting is on the surface it sounds like the DA is moving towards more transparency than there has been in the past, which is great.
11:01:51 AM webchick: you know no matter what's going on
11:01:55 AM webchick: you can connect with someone in the DA
11:02:02 AM farriss: jredding: do you have a count for how many people were on the dial-in?
11:02:03 AM martab: What about a Drupal Association virtual meetup?
11:02:04 AM webchick: "i had this issue thing," "I saw this in IRC.."
davereid is now known as davereid|lunch (11:02:06 AM)
11:02:09 AM webchick: one hour a month
11:02:13 AM webchick: we take a step back and say "ok, let's listen"
11:02:28 AM webchick: virtual meetup… that's a good idea.
11:02:38 AM webchick: don't have a count right now for voice
11:02:42 AM webchick: 25 people in irc
Mallezie left the room (quit: Quit: Page closed). (11:02:44 AM)
11:03:11 AM webchick: thanks for the comment, beeradb
11:03:15 AM cweagans: mmmm. beer.
11:03:16 AM webchick: you still have the best irc monkier ever
11:03:28 AM webchick: (yay transparency!!_
11:03:31 AM beeradb:
11:03:31 AM webchick: That's true.
11:03:34 AM webchick: We're listening to feedback from community
11:03:37 AM webchick: trying to get information out there
11:03:42 AM webchick: if there were a checklist to transparency
11:03:49 AM webchick: i think we all wouldv'e downloaded it years ago and started checking it off
11:03:55 AM webchick: unfortunatel yit's not, it's a process
11:04:00 AM webchick: we want everyone to know what the DA is doing
11:04:02 AM webchick: and be part of the process
11:04:06 AM webchick: we are YOUR commiunity orgnization
11:04:14 AM webchick: we'll do this for awhile, if there's a better way we'll pivot/change
11:04:17 AM webchick: if there's more we can do, let us know
11:04:18 AM stevepurkiss: I'd like to know more too
11:04:26 AM webchick: balancing a lot with heavhy work loads, etc.
11:04:30 AM twardnw: perhaps the questions which are posted via the website could be made public before the meeting?
11:04:31 AM webchick: but want to get the information out there.
11:04:34 AM webchick: any other suggestions?
11:04:56 AM webchick: I don't see other things on IRC, no one else spoken on voice
11:04:59 AM webchick: want to take everyone for taking time
11:05:01 AM webchick: highly appreciated
11:05:04 AM webchick: thank youb for taking time fo rtthe DA
11:05:10 AM webchick: as well as all of your time on the Drupal project
11:05:14 AM webchick: your contributions highly apprecioated
11:05:18 AM webchick: looking forward to seeing you all in denver!
11:05:23 AM webchick: again, PLEASE buy tickets if you haven't yet
11:05:27 AM webchick: trainings about to slell out
11:05:35 AM webchick: the longer you wait, the more it costs us
11:05:40 AM webchick: on-site sales cost more
11:05:46 AM webchick: use that great thing—technology
11:05:50 AM webchick: go to website, get ticket, get party ticket
11:05:54 AM webchick: I'm excited for it, hope to see you there.
11:06:04 AM webchick: if you're a community organizer, get word out about community leader meeting
11:06:10 AM webchick: if you're interested in a board meeting, come attend one there
11:06:15 AM webchick: jump into process
11:06:18 AM webchick: i think it's quite awesome
11:06:19 AM webchick: thanks for your time
11:06:22 AM webchick: going to wrap this up
11:06:26 AM webchick: thanks again! see you in DEnver!
11:06:32 AM webchick: jredding++
11:06:33 AM webchick: YAY
11:06:39 AM jredding: Thanks everyone!
