In order to activate any of these maps simply copy and paste all of the settings into the settings bar in game.


BAR Map Modding: Operator's Manual

1. Setup & Testing Environment

In-Game UI Settings

  • Go to Settings.
  • Search filter: "Map".
  • Enable Display Map Position.
  • Look bottom left.
  • Shows X, Z, and Elevation.
  • Elevation is your ruler.
  • Hit F6 in-game.
  • Shows traversability (green overlay).
  • Checks shallow water pathing.

The Testing Lobby

  • Skip Skirmish mode.
  • Commands act differently there.
  • Host unranked multiplayer.
  • Lock the lobby.
  • Add inactive AI opponent.
  • Save workflows using !preset [name].

2. Engine Physics & Ground Rules

Rule 1: Irreversibility

  • Engine has no memory.
  • flatten merges terrain forever.
  • Cannot undo merged heights.
  • Sculpt first.
  • Flatten last.

Rule 2: Multiplier Math

  • Commands are not simple addition.
  • They use a Multiplier Formula:
  • Pivot + (Difference × Multiplier).
  • Multiplier > 1: Stretches terrain upwards.
  • Multiplier < 1: Squishes terrain flat.
  • Negative Multiplier: Reflects terrain completely.
  • Turns deep trenches into high mountains.
  • minheight and maxheight are fake.
  • They are negative multiplier aliases.

3. Core Command Toolset

Sculpting Commands

  • extremeabove [Pivot] [Multiplier]
  • Modifies everything above pivot.
  • extremebelow [Pivot] [Multiplier]
  • Modifies everything below pivot.

Capping & Global Commands

  • flatten [Height]
  • Creates flat ceiling above.
  • floor [Height]
  • Creates flat floor below.
  • invertmap
  • Flips all elevation values.
  • Mountains become valleys.
  • waterlevel [Height]
  • Must be separate from debug.
  • Shifts entire map elevation.

4. Master Strategy: Tag, Separate, Recapture

Phase 1: Tag

  • Target a varied area.
  • Use flatten or extremeabove.
  • Make it one predictable height.
  • This is your "Tag".

Phase 2: Separate

  • Run invertmap.
  • Map flips completely.
  • Your Tag is now isolated.
  • Becomes a deep, flat trench.

Phase 3: Recapture

  • Run extremebelow.
  • Target only the trench.
  • Use massive negative multiplier.
  • Example: extremebelow -16 -9.
  • Launches trench skyward.
  • Creates brand new walls/mountains.

5. Water, Lava & Tides

Tides & UI Quirks

  • Add tides: !bset map_tidal high.
  • Options: low, medium, high.
  • UI will not update.
  • Top right stays blank.
  • But power generation works.

Basic Lava Tides

  • !bset map_waterislava 1
  • !bset map_lavatiderhythm enabled
  • Set map_lavahighlevel.
  • Set map_lavalowlevel.
  • Set dwell times (in seconds).
  • Simple up and down cycles.

Advanced Tweaklava Scripts

  • For complex tide schedules.
  • Format: !bset map_tweaklava {H, S, D}
  • H = Height (Target elevation).
  • S = Speed (999 = instant).
  • D = Dwell (99999 = forever).
  • Never use zero!
  • Engine hates zeros.
  • Use 1 instead.

6. Essential Presets & Syntax

Universal Syntax Rules

  • Always use lowercase !bset.
  • No quotes around map names.
  • Example: !map Special Hotstepper 1.1.1
  • Debug strings must be sequential.
  • Use commas between debug steps.

Essential Mod Blocks

  • Faction Agnostic Mod:
  • !bset forceallunits 1
  • All factories build all units.
  • Ranked Off:
  • !bset ranked_game 0
  • Double Wind Power:
  • Use !bset tweakdefs Lua block.
