How to use Tailwind CSS with Pelican

These steps show how to install Tailwind CSS in a Pelican project, purge and minify it so you don't have to reference a 3+ MB CSS file but only several kB.

1. virtualenv venv

Set up and use a Python virtual environment

Python virtual environment management can be tricky, but it's essential for isolating dependencies.

You have several options for virtual environment managers. We provide instructions for uv, venv, and conda below.

uv is relatively new, but it's the fastest and becoming very popular. If you don't already have a Python virtual environment manager, we suggest using it.

To remove a submodule you need to:

• Delete the relevant section from the .gitmodules file.
• Stage the .gitmodules changes git add .gitmodules
• Delete the relevant section from .git/config.
• Run git rm --cached path_to_submodule (no trailing slash).
• Run rm -rf .git/modules/path_to_submodule (no trailing slash).
• Commit git commit -m "Removed submodule "
• Delete the now untracked submodule files rm -rf path_to_submodule
