bike lanes and highlight reel from Halifax suburban feedback site

Summary

Bike Lane Sentiment

Overwhelmingly PRO-bike/pedestrian infrastructure.

  • 237 comments mention bikes/pedestrians/trails
  • 177 (75%) are explicitly FOR more bike infrastructure
  • 0 (0%) are against bike lanes
  • 60 (25%) are neutral/unclear

The closest thing to "anti-bike" sentiment is one comment calling existing bike lanes "useless" because they're poorly designed and encroached upon by speeding motorists — but even that person wants better bike infrastructure, not less.

Verdict: Everyone wants more bike lanes. The debate is about where and how, not whether.

Highlight Reel: Funny/Weird/Karen/Boomer Comments

The Karen:

[2454] Bedford Highway
"Continuing to allow beer gardens and similar setting up here is a terrible idea and should not be permitted."

The Boomer:

[2185] Dartmouth
"Too many stupid roundabouts. Bring back proper intersections."

The Entitled:

[2376] Stanley Park
"Get rid of the bus route on Walter Havill!!!!"

The Conspiracy Theorist:

[2499] Dartmouth Crossing
"A 12-lane 4-way stop is really expecting a lot of Nova Scotia drivers."

The Visionary:

[2242] Portland Estates
"Gondola To Woodside via Baker; there is no direct bus, overcomes hills, lower staffing issues, frequent, directly connects CH to the Harbour and NSCC"

The Multilingual:

[2014] Woodlawn
"Bike lane here por favor!"

The Minimalist:

[1910] Spryfield
"Transit is terrible!"

The Contrarian:

[1954] Jollimore
"Everyone says a bike and pedestrian bridge. Just build a full bridge! Small vehicular traffic will lift the burden on the rotary. Just don't permit freight trucks."

The NIMBY Call-Out:

[2135] Tam O'Shanter Ridge
"The mixed-use apartment complex proposed on this site's much better than the long-abandoned vacant house. Let have some more housing and businesses on this spot and a lot less NIMBY opposition to it."

The Montreal Envy:

[1951] Forest Hills
"This parking lot is often only half full even at peak useage on the weekend. We should put in a little seacan market (like MTL)..."

The Absolute:

[2371] Feldspar Crescent
"NO development here! Ever!"

The Speedbump Disappointed:

[2040] Fairview
"So called speedbumps have been installed but they are so mild they are ineffective."

The Street Racing Witness:

[2137] Woodlawn
"This stretch of Main from Caledonia to Forest Hills is plagued with street racing and loudness-modified vehicles on any day that it's not winter or raining."

The Run-On Sentence:

[2374] Spryfield
"I would absolutely love a set of lights here it incredibly dangerous and it's getting even more so trying to turn left at this area the crosswalk as well can be quite a danger for people and pedestrians crossing because you have people turning left!!!"
