In order for the bot to function, we store some information about servers, users, and submitted confessions. Below you can find a list of what information we store and why it is stored.
- User IDs: We store these to link confessions to the user who submitted them internally for reporting purposes, as well as link server premium subscriptions to the user who is subscribed. Additionally, they are used to store a list of blocked users in each server and globally.
- Channel IDs: We store these so that the bot can know where to send various messages such as confession messages and log messages.
- Server IDs: We store these to keep server configurations and confessions tied to their respective servers.
- Submitted Confessions: We do not store confession text by default. If a confession is reported we store the content internally so our Global Moderators can take appropriate action on the report.
- Attachment URLs: We store URLs of files attached to confessions in order to make the attaching feature possible.
This data is used throughout the bot to make it work. Without storing the data above, it would not be possible for Confess to function. The data we collect is used for the purposes stated above, and nothing else. We will never give out the information we store to unauthorized users.
We strive to provide the best privacy they can get to our users. The confessions are anonymous to members and staff of the server. Even the vetted channel feature is enabled, it is not possible for server staff to view the authors of confessions. When a confession is reported, Global Moderators receive access to author information of the specific reported confession. This information is considered highly sensitive and will not be shared with users outside of our staff team unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Extenuating circumstances are almost always classified as credible threats to the life or safety of the confessing user or others. In these cases, our Global Moderators may find it prudent to disclose the identity of the confessing user to an administrator of the server where the confession was submitted in order to prevent possible problematic events. This decision is not taken lightly, and will only be used as a last resort at the discretion of our global moderation team.
All data and bot services are protected by authentication and access is limited to a small subset of users (developers and, for some data, Confess Staff members). If you believe you have found a security issue in one of our systems, do not post in a public chat. DM the developer (xand3rr#0) with information and we will investigate.

If you would like your data to be removed from our systems, please contact our team in the server listed above and we'll help you out from there. Please note that we may be unable to remove some data due to moderation concerns.
