The last few months have really been a grind, to the point where I'm feeling pretty demotivated/exhausted and I keep getting this idea that I didn't accomplish as much this year as I would have liked... however, this is pretty ridiculous considering the amount of things I objectively did accomplish this year, so I thought I'd write a (non-exhaustive) list to better align my thoughts with reality and give myself more room to take it easy lately without guilt.
In (mostly) no particular order...
- Had a baby! first one too, man, what a ride!
- Moved
- Turned 30
- Norwegian driver's license
- Norwegian citizenship
- Changed jobs
- Won the oldskool 4k competition at Revision (prod)
- Wrote an audio codec for 64k
- Started learning proper DSP theory, including reading "MATHEMATICS OF THE DISCRETE FOURIER TRANSFORM (DFT)" cover-to-cover, which was extremely enlightening!
- Migrated squishy to x86_64, pioneering 64-bit 64k intro development
- Started a new Vulkan demotool
- Made significant progress on the xenowing project, including bootstrapping Rust (which also included a custom memory allocator, very fun) and figuring out how zero-cost hardware abstractions can work such that the same code can be run against a simulated and/or physical GPU and prototyping/emulating a barrel processor for vertex TnL including all of the supporting compiler work
- Started working on SAT/SMT solving and model checking here (early stages ofc, but as it turns out this is crazy fun so I doubt I'll be dropping this anytime soon!)
- Made progress on at least 3 secret demoscene-related projects I started last year
- Landed my first kickflip
- Bought my first oscilloscope, used it to make my first resistor ladder DAC
- Beat Doom Eternal
- Finally played through Portal 1+2
cheers rez <3
