Thanks for this, I loved it, I did have to change the grep from /usr/bin/grep to /bin/grep and I did get rid of the new line on line 679 and also tightened up the prompt to make it a bit more compact, I did also change the 'ls' alias to include the "l" (lower case L) flag since i just generally prefer to see it like this.. and I LOVE seeing the cpu usage, total files and size, love the coloring, love the history adjustments... the only other thing i thought was missing was a 'set title' function so you can explicitly set the title of terminal windows.. that would be a nice addition. Many thanks for posting this.

I always have vim as editor. Does`t matter even if I type nano.

This is cool! Great!
The 'git' feature should be added to this file. Also, when navigating (with 'cd') into directories, the 'path' becomes long
and disturbing. Can this be fixed, by display just the name of current directory, and leaving the user to use 'cd' (or echo $PWD) to get FULL path?

Thanks. :)

@ivenpoker to get full path change the \w\ to capital: \W\

Thanks a lot for this. Super awesome, I too made some changes (like the guy above, I am so used to having my bashrc file set to display ls by default as alias ls=‘ls -lah’ because I’m just so used to seeing it this way that anything else looks off to me after all these years). I definitely do love the stuff you made that I hadn’t seen anywhere else - although admittedly I wasn’t actively hunting for it, either - like the progress bar on the copy command, the error notification on a command running for >10 minutes, etc. The CPU prompt script at the end seemed cool but a bit overboard for me, especially as I’m trying to alter this/combine as much of it as possible in a singular, stripped down version I can utilize both in MacOS and also in various Linux distros (centOS, Debian, Manjaro/Arch).

Cheers to the creator.

I really like this but having trouble adjusting to the placement of the cursor. How would I modify the script not to move to a second line?

Very sweet script. Thanks for your effort and sharing this script.
Did some minor changes to make it more compatible with my work style. :)

Saved my time. Thanks! For arch, might you consider,

	# For Arch we currently just test if /etc/arch-release exists
	if [ -f /etc/arch-release ]; then
		dtype="arch"

and

	elif [ $dtype == "arch" ]; then
		sudo pacman -S multitail tree joe

Very nice! By the way, I had some issues with stty in Ubuntu, I fixed replacing stty -ixon by [[ $- == i ]] && stty -ixon

This is an awesome collection
The file /etc/SuSE-release has been marked as depreciated since openSUSE 13.1.
I replaced that with cat /usr/lib/os-release

@zachbrowne Is there a way I can fork and change the arrow to a dollar sign? like instead of > to have $ at the prompt before issuing commands?

Why are we forcing vim as an alias for nano? Seems so counterintuitive.

Hi Zac,
I really like your work and been using this bashrc for a while.
Just encountered a problem with "cpg" function. -r switch seems missing to copy a directory.

Anyone has tried to add a feature to show the git branch name in the prompt.

I used a lot of this in my /etc/profile.d folder, honestly all the system users are getting my version by default, so we'll see how that goes. On the prompt portion at the end of line 646, I think it should read $(date +%b-'%-d') not %-m since this shows Sep-9 instead of Sep-27. Consider changing the last line to PROMPT_COMMAND="__setprompt; $PROMPT_COMMAND" to preserve the history changes made in line 39. Thanks again for sharing!

Can you add the branch name ?

To add Git Branch Name

	# PS4 is used for tracing a script in debug mode
	PS4='\[${DARKGRAY}\]+\[${NOCOLOR}\] '

	# Show git branch
	PS1+="\[${DARKGRAY}\](\[${YELLOW}\]\$(git branch 2>/dev/null | grep '^*' | colrm 1 2)\[${DARKGRAY}\])\[${NOCOLOR}\] "

Btw, $HOME is the default argument for cd on at least any version of bash I have ever encountered, and at least in some other shells too (like zsh and fish).

This is very well done !
Just being curious, your script refers to a help file, if you wrote it, it must be very nice as well !
Would you share it ?
alias hlp='less ~/.bashrc_help'
