Automatically extract translatable strings from Xcode storyboards and update .strings files. Original version by MacRumors forum user mikezang (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16060008&postcount=4). Slightly updated by Ole Begemann. UICollectionView w/ NSFetchedResultsController & NSBlockOperation. Idea originated from Blake Watters (https://github.com/AshFurrow/UICollectionView-NSFetchedResultsController/issues/13)
- (void)controllerWillChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller
{
self.shouldReloadCollectionView = NO;
self.blockOperation = [[NSBlockOperation alloc] init];
}
- (void)controller:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller didChangeSection:(id<NSFetchedResultsSectionInfo>)sectionInfo
atIndex:(NSUInteger)sectionIndex forChangeType:(NSFetchedResultsChangeType)type
{
__weak UICollectionView *collectionView = self.collectionView;

How to do lots of cool things with NSArray. Inspired by NSHipster and WWDC 2013 Session 228 - "Hidden Gems in Cocoa and Cocoa Touch"
NSArray *albums = @[[Album albumWithName:@"Random Access Memories" price:9.99f],
[Album albumWithName:@"Clarity" price:6.99f],
[Album albumWithName:@"Weekend in America" price:7.99f],
[Album albumWithName:@"Weekend in America" price:7.90f],
[Album albumWithName:@"Bangarang EP" price:2.99f]];
// Reversing an Array
__unused NSArray *reversed = albums.reverseObjectEnumerator.allObjects;
// PREDICATES

Greetings, NSHipsters!

As we prepare to increment our NSDateComponents -year by 1, it's time once again for NSHipster end-of-the-year Reader Submissions! Last year, we got some mind-blowing tips and tricks. With the release of iOS 7 & Mavericks, and a year's worth of new developments in the Objective-C ecosystem, there should be a ton of new stuff to write up for this year.

Submit your favorite piece of Objective-C trivia, framework arcana, hidden Xcode feature, or anything else you think is cool, and you could have it featured in the year-end blowout article. Just comment on this gist below!

Here are a few examples of the kind of things I'd like to see:

  • Using NSStringFromSelector(@selector()) as a safer way to do KVC / KVO / NSCoding.
  • Panic's [rather surprising discovery about the internals of the Lightning Digital AV Adapter](http://www.panic.com/blog/the-lightning-di

Why I still prefer nibs to storyboards.

Storyboard Segues initially seem like a pretty cool way to construct interfaces using minimal glue code. But actually, ordinary nibs already support this, and in a much more flexible way.

Certainly, a Storyboard lets you bind a button action up to display a view controller with no code, but in practice you will usually want to pass some data to the new controller, depending on which button you used to get there, and this means implementing the -prepareForSegue:sender: method, which rapidly becomes a giant if/elseif statement of doom, negating most of the benefit of the codeless segue:

- (void)prepareForSegue:(UIStoryboardSegue *)segue sender:(id)sender
{
    if ([segue.identifier isEqualToString:@"modalSegue"])
    {
        ModalViewController *controller = (ModalViewController *)segue.destination;

controller.someProperty = someValue;

Detect if you're currently running a development version or an App Store/Ad Hoc version.
static BOOL PSPDFIsDevelopmentBuild(void) {
#if TARGET_IPHONE_SIMULATOR
return YES;
#else
static BOOL isDevelopment = NO;
static dispatch_once_t onceToken;
dispatch_once(&onceToken, ^{
// There is no provisioning profile in AppStore Apps.
NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:[NSBundle.mainBundle pathForResource:@"embedded" ofType:@"mobileprovision"]];
if (data) {
