WebCatalog is a tool to easily create desktop apps from websites. It's an awesome tool, but the free version (Basic account) limits you to 5 2 apps.

However, I came up with a simple workaround to trick WebCatalog into letting you install as many apps as you want:

All WebCatalog apps are stored at %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps. On startup, WebCatalog makes a list of your installed apps by looking at this folder. If we make it so WebCatalog cannot find this folder, it won't think we have any apps installed, and it will let us install more! Here is a tutorial.

Warning: If you open the latest version of WebCatalog and have more than 2 apps in the %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder, it will silently block any apps beyond those 2, causing them to stop working. If this happens, see the section on softlocked apps for how to fix them. Make sure to follow instructions carefully and be careful with what WebCatalog version you are on, as to avoid this hassle.

Make sure to do step 1 before step 2. If you open the latest version of WebCatalog and have more than 2 apps in the %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder, it will silently block any apps beyond those 2, causing them to stop working. If this happens, see the section on softlocked apps.

1. Close WebCatalog and rename the %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder to WebCatalogApps1 (or whatever else you want to rename it to).
2. Install the latest version of WebCatalog
3. Install up to 2 more apps. As you install your additional apps, WebCatalog should recreate the %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder and add the apps to it.
4. Close WebCatalog.
5. Copy all the apps you've just installed - the WebCatalogApps folder's contents - from the WebCatalogApps folder to the renamed WebCatalogApps1 folder.
6. Delete the WebCatalogApps folder.
7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 until you've installed all the apps you want.
8. Downgrade WebCatalog to a version without the patch - install version 52.1.0 (or a more recent version without the patch, if you can find it - and if you do, drop a comment!). Don't mind the sketchy website - it seems to be the official file and passed a Virtustotal scan, so it should be safe.
9. Rename your renamed WebCatalogApps1 folder back to WebCatalogApps.
10. Using the downgraded version, you will be able to use your apps, but unable to install new ones or update them.
11. Whenever you would like to install new apps, repeat this process - but again, make sure to avoid softlocking your apps.

If you plan to use this method whenever you want new apps, it might be handy to have the setup files for the latest version of WebCatalog and your downgraded version both in an accessible place. This way, you will be able to switch between versions easily.

Another option is to keep the latest WebCatalog version, but launch your apps individually. Access them with the shortcuts Webcatalog creates, which are stored on your desktop (%USERPROFILE%\Desktop) and in the start menu (%Appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\WebCatalog Apps). This will make updating or installing new apps easier, because you won't need to switch versions. However, note that merely opening WebCatalog with more than 2 apps in your WebCatalogApps folder will cause your apps to be locked and stop working (see the section on softlocked apps). This is why I recommend either downgrading or uninstalling WebCatalog. As with before, you won't be notified of new updates - you will have to manually check.

Updating Apps: Your apps will not update on the downgraded version. I honestly don't know what updating them does - they seem to work fine without updating. However, here is a way to update your apps.

Though you can't use apps or install new ones on the latest version, you can still update them. So all you have to do is install the latest version, update your apps, and then downgrade again. Your apps will become softlocked, however - see Softlocked Apps to fix this. Note that you will not be notified when the apps have new updates; the only way to find out is to check manually by installing the latest version.

If you would like to update your apps without having them softlocked, update them in batches of one to two apps at a time:

1. Close WebCatalog and rename your %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder to WebCatalogApps1
2. Install the latest version of WebCatalog
3. Create a new WebCatalogApps folder in the %LocalAppData%\Programs directory (if it has not already been created), and copy 2 and ONLY 2 apps into this folder.
4. Open Webcatalog and update these apps, then close it
5. Move those apps back into WebCatalogApps1 (overwriting the old files), and then delete them from the WebCatalogApps folder,
6. Repeat steps 3-5 with your other apps, in batches of 1 or 2 apps.
7. Once you are finished, delete the WebCatalogApps folder, then rename WebCatalogApps1 back to WebCatalogApps and downgrade your app back.

Note that this method is very similar to the method for fixing softlocked apps.

Softlocked Apps:

When you open (a non-downgraded version of) the WebCatalog app and have more than 2 apps in the %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder, it will silently block any apps beyond those 2. When you try to open these "softlocked" apps, they will display an error message. Even if you move those apps back into WebCatalogApps1, they will still not work. However, if WebCatalog thinks that other apps have been uninstalled and those are back to being the only 2, it will be tricked into unlocking them. Here's how to do this:

1. Close WebCatalog and rename your %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder to WebCatalogApps1
2. Install the latest version of WebCatalog
3. Create a new WebCatalogApps folder in the %LocalAppData%\Programs directory (if it has not already been created), and copy 2 and ONLY 2 apps into this folder.
4. Open Webcatalog (it should think that you only have those 2 apps installed and unlock them - this will happen silently), then close it.
5. Move those apps into WebCatalogApps1 (overwriting the old files), and then delete them from the WebCatalogApps folder,
6. Repeat steps 3-5 with your other softlocked apps, in batches of 1 or 2 apps.
7. Once you are finished, delete the WebCatalogApps folder, then rename WebCatalogApps1 back to WebCatalogApps and downgrade your app back.

To avoid softlocked apps, never open a non-downgraded version of the WebCatalog with more than 2 apps in your %LocalAppData%\Programs\WebCatalogApps folder. This is why I recommend uninstalling or downgrading WebCatalog after you install the apps you want.

Apps don't always appear to be softlocked. I haven't confirmed this, but I think that apps that you have opened since installing are subject to softlocking, while apps that you have never opened will not be softlocked.

In version 66.5.0, this method was fixed, so I can no longer use the apps even after following these steps. Upon opening the app, it prompts me to upgrade the plan.

I'm sorry, you're referring to the method I just updated a few days ago? It seems incredibly unlucky that they would patch it so quickly - I would of course tell you to double check you did everything correctly, though it also is possible that the new method was indeed patched.

Yes, of course. When you get a chance, run a test in a test environment. They patched on 66.5.0. As soon as you try to download them two by two, the programs already come patched anyway.

Well, crap! I can't believe it... what are the odds that they coincidentally patch it days after this is updated? Hopefully @Mysticc28 finds a workaround. As I wrote last time, this may be bypassable, but there's always the chance they have implemented server-sided detection and made it virtually impossible... I hope not!
