I have tried to inspect this key in hpsmart array cli, apparently, 60days in demo
pour avoir la license a vie, changé la date du serveur (bios) de 60 ans dans le futur. puis entrée la license demo 60 jours, et repasser sur la date normale et la vous allais avoir votre license pour le p410 pour 60 ans ;)
@Tokukarin What do you mean by "... no API for the HDD's status"?
What's wrong with the CLI (API) that's freely available? (Monitoring with Check_MK/Nagios is working)
e.g. on older installs:
hpacucli ctrl slot=2 pd all show
Smart Array P410 in Slot 2

Worked fine on HP DL360 G7, it has P410i Smart Array Controller.
What happens after 60-days with this license? I have applied it to a lab DL380 G7 P410i card and it worked, and I created a RAID6 volume, however I can't see anywhere it says it is an evaluation license? The firmware on the P410i has been upgraded to the latest 6.64 version.
@andy-butterworth When I was using my HP Server nothing changed after the license expired.
But I switched to Dell and am never looking back again.
Hi Tokukarin, how long was your server running for? The information I've found so far is sketchy and there are contradicting posts. This is all semi-lab kit so not a big deal if the server needs rebooting every so often to re-apply the key, but I'd rather not and its something that is easy to forget.
@andy-butterworth My Server was running for half a year, but after the license expired I was unable to change settings. But it still continued working.
Did the cache stop working? That seems to be the biggest issue I'd face. Do you know if the evaluation key can be re-added?
@andy-butterworth Just don't use the cache, the cache continued working for me. But the battery pack for the cache died and after a power outage and corrupting some data I deactivated it anyway and used an SSD as cache. And after a few more months I switched to Dell because my drives just died one after another every two weeks. In the last year not one of my drives died in my Dell server.
Edit:
AFAIK you can't re-use the key.
@andy-butterworth My server kept working after the expiration date. it was being restarted daily. For a lab env, you won't notice any difference as most likely you won't be using all of the features your RAID card has. I sure wasn't.
Hi moraza, I'm interested in what happens to the RAID6 functionality after (if?) it expires. There are two DL380 G7's with 8 x 900GB SAS drives in each and I'd rather build a RAID6 array rather than 1 or 2 x RAID5s. The cache currently isn't working on one of them as the battery has died so I'm trying to source a replacement at the moment, although I'm struggling as there seem to be different options for the batteries. The replacement I got seems to be incompatible (error message when the P410i boots and initialises the drives).
Cheers. I appreciate the warning regarding cheap batteries. I got a HP branded replacement; however, I think there are various part numbers, and they all have the same connector and the one I've got isn't suitable for a DL370 G7 P410i. Waiting for the supplied to come back to me as I asked for one that was suitable for a DL380 G7 P410i.
I'm still a bit concerned about the RAID6 functionality after (if?) the license expires. Once the RAID has been configured, it won't change so if the behavior after the license expiring is that changes can't be made then that won't be an issue. However, if the cache will get disabled then that's a bigger issue.
I built a RAID6 volume using 8 x 900GB SAS drives connected to a P410i on a DL380 G7 running ESXi 7.0U3. I used the evaluation license and its now expired. The volume is still functional, however the cache is disabled. This is what the HP SSA utility shows:
`[root@esxi-host-6:~] /opt/smartstorageadmin/ssacli/bin/ssacli ctrl all show detail

It has been rebooted several times, so the RAID6 is still working, just no cache.
Using the ACU on the Proliant Support Pack DVD/USB, you can remove and re-add the evaluation key (you don't seem to be able to remove the key from the P410i BIOS settings (F8 on boot).
I'd therefore really like to put a non-evaluation key in there. Anyone know any sources?
Cheers
Andy
@andy-butterworth
You can remove the license with this command:
delete /map1 license
But I have no idea what will happen and If you are able to reuse it. (I do not recommend using that command as I have no Idea what will happen! Definitely have a Backup that you can restore!!!)
But all I can say is, your better off with a SSD as cache.
Otherwise go for DELL. I swear to god, so much better. I could even write a script on my hypervisor that turns down the fans at night so that I can sleep in peace. And in the morning the script released the limit for the fans.
Edit:
I think I am able to acquire an unused iLO license key. I will post the key here as soon as I have it but I don't know If you can use it multiple times.
Anyone familiar with the HPE 'ssacli' commands and licenses?
The help shows this `root@localhost:~] /opt/smartstorageadmin/ssacli/bin/ssacli help license
The following documentation pertains to your search:
add [licensekey=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX]
The add command adds a license key to the specified array controller. The
target can be any valid controller.
delete
The command removes a license key from the specified array controller. The
target can be any valid license key.
Examples:
controller slot=0 add licensekey=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
controller slot=0 add lk=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
controller all add lk=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
controller slot=0 licensekey XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX delete
controller slot=0 lk XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX delete
controller slot=0 lk XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX show
controller slot=0 lk all show`
I can add the license with the command
ssacli ctrl slot=0 add licensekey=34T62-N84MB-7DQGY-G7XGT-YTQ63
however deleting it doesn't work and I get this error
`[root@localhost:~] /opt/smartstorageadmin/ssacli/bin/ssacli ctrl slot=0 lk 34T62-N84MB-7DQGY-G7XGT-YTQ63 delete
Error: The specified device does not have a licensekey identified by
"34T62-N84MB-7DQGY-G7XGT-YTQ63"
`
I've tried using the keyword 'licensekey' and the shortened 'lk' as well as the key with hyphens and without and I get the same error message.
I was hoping to just create a script to remove and re-add the license and run it every few months.
Here is a license:
36Z2J-8TJG8-M6XH4-6YWKB-WXM36
Hi, thanks for this, however it doesn't appear to work.
I have tried adding it during boot (F8) and from the ACU on the Proliant Support Pack .ISO.
Here is a license:
36Z2J-8TJG8-M6XH4-6YWKB-WXM36
I don't know If you can use it multiple times.
But whoever uses it, you can thank me with Monero here: 44YXzbkYW8X7qeuwKD9iKfSJkKzBwKn42insYuc7H1MwYBFBB9deND72oE2HcB4ELNQsEkDZotLpdekoAQazcN5EVHp3oSR
:D
Doesn't work for me too
Doesn't work for me too
HP should honestly release the key so we can use this in lab.
HP should honestly release the key so we can use this in lab.
Those greedy motherf.ers at HP wont release the master key for that shitty underperformer p410 not even in 100 yrs. Hell freeze over sooner than HP giving away anything for free. Thousands of unlicensed p410 are working even in 2024 all over the world. HP cannot let it happen to lose any potential $ from any single one of these people. So they wont publish the key, I can guarantee this to all of you. HP is similarly greedy mf company as oracle.
Here is a license: 36Z2J-8TJG8-M6XH4-6YWKB-WXM36
That p410 license key is bound to the serial number of your own specific device. Every other p410 has a different serial number, therefore no other card will accept this as a valid license. This works only on your unique card. There are clever motherf.ers working at HP, if its about milking their customers, so dont have high hopes you can find any working license for this shitty p410 card anywhere on the entire internet.
Im running into the same issue with my p440ar. I cant get a license for it through Hp because its a discontinued server. Why not just give us firmware to unlock it to its full potential then? HP is nothing more than greedy ass pieces of trash. I will NEVER buy another HP. I paid cash for this server and still get shit treatment from them. Because I dont have a subscription I was unable to update the firmware for iLO, as well as bios. Thankfully digging into the community, I was able to find not only the iLO firmware, but the BIOS as well. Even further digging I found the SPP (Service Pack for the Gen 9 servers). I have it being seeded on line right now.
In my past I have used Dell Poweredge, and still have my origional Dell Poweredge 1650's (x2) as well as my Dell Poweredge 2650. All 3 run perfectly fine just slow since the age. But I bought them new at the same time I purchased my HP DL380 G4. HP made it impossible for me to get firmwares, by putting them behind a paywall. Why? for the love of god this is BULLCRAP!. Dell has allowed all users to obtain their stuff ree.. I just dont get why a corporation would become so greedy and put everything behind a paywall. This will discourage people from buying more form them in the future. It has me. My DL380 G4 was purchased new, never had issues and never even updated the firmware. Id like to update the firmware too the latest available but all behind paywall.
Youd sure would think that they would be more grateful that we are keeping their products out of the landfill, and using their product. Honestly its a solid server. The G9, and even the G4. But holy hell, they are way out of service date, just release the shit already!
Doesn’t work on HP Smart Array P420i
Seems you can purchase a (currently cheap due to promotion) license from this site, though can't order it (yet) as I'm located outside of NZ.
https://acquire.co.nz/p/hpe/software-licensing/other-software/hpe-smartcache-no-media-24x7-technical-support-1-svr-license-d7s26a-76953/
I've sent them an email for more information.
I would rather find the license or solution to get the license for free, I don’t want to buy a license for home lab, I am totally in for paying for the license for enterprise environment but for polish home lab it’s pretty expensive thing, for the cost of Smart Array license I can get a pretty good phone
Uhm the license is currently in promotion and costs with GST (VAT) about 30NZD (~17EUR). So I don't think you'll be able to purchase much phone for it 😄 I'm also searching for a cheap (or free) license for my homelab.
Eh not really, I haven't even noticed a performance drop, Linux already does caching natively and my application don't take advantage of it anyways.
