Notes on Modern UI Development: Taking Ideas from Spaced Repetition

Introduction

I have been working on a modern typing training application for the last couple of days. One of the main motivations was to build an app with a modern UI and minimal distractions, enabling to fully focus on the training aspect. You can read more about the original idea and thought process here as well as some notes on iterating over the details here.

After adding some minimal auto close functionalities for the code training section, you can read about it here, another important feature was to make the text training part more entertaining.

This has spread to a far wider audience than I had anticipated - probably my fault for using a title that is in hindsight catnip for link aggregators. I wrote this back in 2021 just as a bunch of personal thoughts of my experiences using Rust over the years (not always well thought through), and don't intend on trying to push them further, outside of personal experiments and projects.

Managing a living language is challenging and difficult work, and I am grateful for all the hard work that the Rust community and contributors put in given the difficult constraints they work within. Many of the things I listed below are not new, and there's been plenty of difficult discussions about many of them over the years, and some are being worked on or postponed, or rejected for various good reasons. Let's list here crates that enhance Rust as a language.

It not "batteries" like in stdx, but Rust-specific crates for workarounds for various missing features and experimental ideals from non-accepted/postponed RFCs, or just hacky tricks.

The list is supposed to contain (mostly) crates that are internal to Rust, not ones for making Rust deal with "external world" like other languages bindings, file formats, protocols and so on.

Primary focus should be on crates that are not easy to find by conventional means (e.g. no algorithm name, format or protocol to search for).

Note that quality of the listed crates may vary from proof-of-concept to stable-and-widely-used.

Cleanup legacy GitHub Actions workflow runs

Python utility to bulk delete GitHub Actions runs for a given workflow, either current or legacy/since removed. The GitHub web UI currently allows removal of individual workflow runs - but this becomes tedious quickly when performed in bulk.
