A (Croatian?) card game played with two decks of regular playing cards, including Jokers.
The goal of the game is to reach a chosen number of points, usually 500 or 1000.
Games are played in as many rounds as it takes for at least one player to reach the target score, carrying over and summing points from previous rounds.
Points are earned by players by arranging their own cards into sets, placed on the table. When any player arranges their cards such that they are not holding any cards ends the round for all players and scoring for the round commences.
Each round has a dealer and a starting player, who is always to the left of the round's dealer.
After each round, the player to the left of the previous dealer becomes the next dealer, and the player to the left of the new dealer becomes the starting player.
The two decks of 52 cards each are thoroughly shuffled together and placed on the table as a single deck.
The starting player divides the deck into two stacks. The starting player's goal is to give the dealer the top half of the deck with exactly the number of cards needing to be dealt for bonus points.
The bottom card of the top stack is examined by the starting player. If it is a joker, they take it for themselves. After the joker has been potentially claimed this top stack is given to the dealer for distribution.
The dealer deals out 13 cards to each player, and a 14th to the starting player. If that 14th card to the starting player is the last card from the top stack that the starting player chose, the starting player wins a bonus 50 pointsfor the round.
If the top stack had insufficient cards, the dealer takes from the bottom stack. If there are excess cards, the excess is added back to the bottom stack so that a single deck remains after dealing.
Starting with the player to the left of the dealer and continuing left until the end of the round, players take turns.
A turn always consists of: drawing a single card, making sets if possible, then discarding a single card.
If the player has not yet made a set, they must draw from the top of the deck. If the player has placed sets down on the table (or, the player is "down") they may also pick up cards from the discard stack.
If the player picks up a card from the discard stack, any card in the stack can be chosen. However, they must also pick up every card lying on top of their chosen card and they must use the chosen card immediately in a set with at least one of their pre-existing cards.
The player attempts to arrange their cards into valid sets that they can place on the table in front of them. The player can play as many cards from their hand as needed. Points for a card are also earned if that card is used to add to another player's set. Only points for the player's own card count towards their score.
During a turn, the player may also take the joker from any player's set if they can replace it with the card the joker was standing in for. This exchange can take place immediately for a straight set. For same kind sets, the joker can only be exchanged if the set is complete (4 cards). Otherwise, the player may place their replacement card in front of the set at a perpendicular angle to "reserve" the joker for themselves once that set has been completed by any player in a later turn.
At the end of the player's turn, they must remove one card from their hand and place it on top of the discard stack.
If that discarded card is their last card in hand, the card is placed face down on top of the discard stack to signal that the round is over (or "closed") and scoring commences. No more player take turns for that round.
A valid set is one of:
- straight - 3 or more cards, from the same suit, in consecutive order.
- same kind - 3 or 4 cards of the same kind, each of a different suit.
A joker may be used in a set in place of any card of the same colour.
You may not place ("go down" with) your first set until you make at least 40 points worth of sets in a single turn. If you can not, you can only spend your turn picking up one card and discarding one card.
Scoring occurs at the end of each round and added to the scores for previous rounds for a total score.
Points are awarded according to the value of the cards. If a card has been placed in a set, it's value is positive. If a card is still in a player's hand, its value is negative.
A player's score can be negative for any round or even for the game as a whole.
When a round brings any player to or past the target score, the game is over and the player with the most points wins the game.
The value of the number cards (2-9) is 5 points each.
The value of the royal cards (jack, queen, king) is 10 points each.
The value of an ace is 5 points if used below a 2, 10 points if used as above a king, and 25 if used in a 3- or 4-of-kind of other aces.
The value of a joker is equivalent to the value of any card it stands in for as a wildcard, or 25 if unused.
If the starting player guesses the correct number of cards to be dealt by dividing the deck accurately, they are awarded 50 bonus points.
The player who closes the round is awarded 50 points.
If the player who closed the round did so on their first turn of the round, they are an additional 50 points.
