APD -- Austin Police Department crime statistics, citywide and by census
tract.
AUTOSALE -- Records on all new vehicles bought and sold in the
five-county Austin area. Based on vehicle registrations, updated monthly by
Cross-Sell Marketing Inc.
BBPAY -- Major league baseball players' salaries in 1995 and 1996.
BEVTAX -- Mixed beverage taxes paid by each Texas bar and restaurant.
Based on monthly data from the state comptroller's office.
CENSUS -- Text, spreadsheet and database files from the U.S. Census
Bureau. Includes historic data (population numbers dating to 1900);
demographics from the 1990 census; and recent data from the bureau. The
information is in various subdirectories:
• 95UPDATE -- Most recent population numbers.
• AUSAREA -- Data specifically about the Austin area.
• BOOMERS -- Census Bureau studies about baby boomers.
• CCDB -- From the City-County Data Book; data for comparing metro areas.
• DENSITY -- Population density data.
• NATION -- Nationwide and state-by-state population numbers.
• POVERTY -- Files about poverty and income.
• TEXAS -- Population data about Texas; numbers for each city and county.
• ZIPCODES -- Demographics on each Texas ZIP code.
CBP -- County Business Patterns: 1991-94 Census Bureau reports on
businesses and employment in Austin-area counties and in Texas.
CPI -- The Consumer Price Index.
CRIME -- Divided into:
• FELONIES -- Felony records from Travis County.
• MISDEM -- Misdemeanor records from Travis County.
• JUVENILE -- Juvenile arrests in Texas, by county.
• UCR -- Uniform Crime Report data; the number of major crimes
reported to law enforcement agencies. Data for the nation, U.S. cities and
all Texas cities and counties. 1995 data from the FBI (national statistics
and for U.S. cities) and from the Texas Department of Public Safety (all
Texas counties and law enforcement agencies) were added in May 1996.
DATA -- Catalogs of databases maintained by state government. Includes
TAP IN, an index compiled by the Texas State Library.
DAYCARE -- List of state-registered day care centers and family day
homes in Texas. Also, results of City of Austin day care survey.
ELECTION -- Election results. There's a subdirectory for each year.
Within each subdirectory, there is a subdirectory for each election.
Generally, we have county-by-county data on all state elections and
box-by-box data on all Travis County/Austin elections. Includes 5/4/96
elections for Austin City Council, Austin school board and Austin Community
College board.
FOIA -- Files about FOI issues, including the text of the Texas Public
Information Act, a form for information requests and a list of allowable
copying charges.
GOVAPPT -- All appointments by Gov. George Bush through January 1996 and
by Gov. Ann Richards during her term.
GOVWORK -- Data on all contracts awarded by the state government in
fiscal year 1995 and by the federal government to Texas companies in 1992-94.
GROUPS -- The Austin Public Library's catalog of community organizations.
GUNS -- Two folders:
• Data from the Texas Department of Public Safety on concealed gun
permits by ZIP code.
• All firearms dealers licenses issued by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco and Firearms in 1993 and 1995.
HIGH_ED -- Statistics on colleges and universities from the Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board. Includes the manual for PREP, the Coordinating
Board's telnet site.
HMDA -- Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data. Shows all applications for
home purchase, improvement and refinancing loans in Texas in 1992-94.
HOPWOOD -- The opinion issued by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
over affirmative action policies at the University of Texas.
HOTELOCC -- Receipts for every hotel in Texas in 1995. Includes location
and number of rooms. From the state comptroller's hotel occupancy tax files.
IRS -- County-by-county data on income tax filings, 1991-93.
IRSMIG -- Migration data from the IRS. Tracks taxpayers who file one
year from a particular place and the next year from a different place.
LOBBY -- State-registered lobbyists and their clients: 1993, 1994, 1995,
1996.
MIGRAT -- Migration data from the Census Bureau and the IRS.
NCAA -- Graduation rates for college athletes and college students in
general, by school; from the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
NOPROFIT -- Lists from the IRS of nonprofit groups, their income and
assets. Also, information on how to obtain and analyze PF990s.
PAYROLLS -- Who works for the City of Austin, the Austin Independent
School District and the State of Texas.
PETS -- Austin/Travis County Pet Registry, which lists everyone who has
registered a dog or cat with the local Health Department since 1989. The
file has phone number for pet owners, who might not be listed in the phone book.
POLITIX -- Campaign contributions to state officials (Gov. George Bush,
former Gov. Ann Richards, Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock, legislators, Supreme Court
judges) and to congressional and federal officeholders and candidates.
POSTAL -- Statistics on the percentage of first-class mail that arrives
on-time in each U.S. metro area.
REALESTA -- State records of complaints against real estate agents.
Updated in May 1996.
REBATES -- Data on utility rebate and assistance programs offered by the
City of Austin.
SCHOOLS -- Achievement, demographic, budgetary and staffing data for all
Texas schools and school districts. With subdirectories for campus-,
district- and state-level information.
SPJTOOLS -- Files about computer-assisted reporting from the Society of
Professional Journalists.
UNOS -- Data on organ transplants.
UNABOMB -- The unabomber's manifesto.
VITSTATS -- Data from the Texas Bureau of Vital Statistics: births,
deaths, marriages, divorces from 1989 to 1994. There's a subdirectory for
each year's data.
POPPROJ -- County-by-county population projections by ethnicity and
gender through the year 2020, under various growth scenarios; from the Texas
State Data Center.
PROPTAX -- Appraisals on all properties in Travis, Williamson and Hays
counties in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996. Also, a subdirectory contains summary
appraisal data for cities, counties and school districts from the state
comptroller's office.
TRI0696 -- Toxic Release Inventory data for 1990-94. Shows how much
toxic waste each Texas manufacturer produced, released and stored.
TRAFFIC -- Data on all Texas traffic accidents in 1994 and 1995.
UTGIFTS -- All gifts to the University of Texas, 1975-1995.
VOTERS -- Databases of registered voters in Travis County, for 1993,
1994, 1995 and 1996.
