Use autofs on Mac OS X to mount network shares automatically during access

Autofs on Mac OS X

With autofs you can easily mount network volumes upon first access to the folder where you want to mount the volume. Autofs is available for many OS and is preinstalled on Mac OS X so I show you how I mounted my iTunes library folder using this method.

Prepare autofs to use a separate configuration file

autofs needs to be configured so that it knows where to gets its configuration. Edit the file /etc/auto_master and add the last line:

#
# Automounter master map
#

+auto_master # Use directory service

Keeping IPython notebooks under Git version control

This gist lets you keep IPython notebooks in git repositories. It tells git to ignore prompt numbers and program outputs when checking that a file has changed.

To use the script, follow the instructions given in the script's docstring.

For further details, read this blogpost.

The procedure outlined here is inspired by this answer on Stack Overflow.

'''This script goes along the blog post
"Building powerful image classification models using very little data"
from blog.keras.io.
It uses data that can be downloaded at:
https://www.kaggle.com/c/dogs-vs-cats/data
In our setup, we:
- created a data/ folder
- created train/ and validation/ subfolders inside data/
- created cats/ and dogs/ subfolders inside train/ and validation/
- put the cat pictures index 0-999 in data/train/cats
