/* Write 1-2 paragraphs about your StrengthsFinder themes: How have you seen yourself using these strengths at Turing? Has your
understanding of these strengths changed since you first reflected on them? If so, how? */
I was a little surprised upon reading my strengthsfinder themes. One of my strengths was leadership, which I had never seen in
myself. Since learning this, I have made an effort to be more of a leader in any situation that I'm in. I think that many times
people waste strengths because they don't see it in themselves. I don't want to do this, and instead of sticking to the same
mindset and assuming that I'm not a leader, I've found it interesting and fulfilling to explore that side of myself.
Another one of my strengths is analytical thinking. I have used this strength every single day at turing, and am very glad
to have this strength. I have always been good at math, science, and thinking logically, so this one was not too much of a
surprise to me. I think one of the biggest struggles I have with posessing this quality is that I sometimes have trouble
thinking emotionally. This can sometimes make things difficult for my personal relationships.
My third strength was forward thinking. To me this means optimism about the future, letting past mistakes be, and using these
thoughts to positively impact my future. I think this is very true for me as well, I spend very little time in the past and
use most of my time to plan for and dream about the future.
/* Write a story about your Turing experience so far: When have you struggled? How have you dealt with struggle? When have
you succeeded at Turing? How did you accomplish those successes? */
I think one of the biggest struggleS I have had so far is transitioning to living in a tiny Wyoming town to living in Denver.
The first couple weeks were very hard for me, and even just simple things like transportation or buying groceries ended up
being major tasks. Really I think that perseverance was the main thing that I needed to get through that period of my life,
and after a couple months of living in Denver, I feel like I am definitley much more settled in, and feel like I know what
I'm doing, at least most of the time.
/* After you practice storytelling in the session, answer this question: What was particularly easy or difficult about
telling your story? What are 1-2 steps that you can take to continue to improve your abilities to tell your story, talk about
yourself with ease, and examine your strengths? */
I think the hardest part about sharing my story was just being open, vulnerable, and honest. I think that it's natural to not
want to tell people that you don't know well a lot about yourself, but I think that not doing so is a mistake. When I did
tell my story, many people were able to relate to me, give me advice, or at least listen and empthasize. I also think that it
was very beneficial to listen to others' stories as well because it really does give you a sense that everyone has been
through or struggled with something.
I think that to improve my storytelling skills I need to:
1. Be more open and vulnerable
2. Listen to others as well.
